Publisher's summary

In a host of consecutive best sellers, Jonathan Kellerman has kept readers spellbound with the intense, psychologically acute adventures of Dr. Alex Delaware. Rage offers a powerful new case in point, as Delaware and LAPD homicide detective Milo Sturgis revisit a horrifying crime from the past that has taken on shocking and deadly new dimensions.

Troy Turner and Rand Duchay were barely teenagers when they kidnapped and murdered a younger child. Troy, a remorseless sociopath, died violently behind bars. But the hulking, slow-witted Rand managed to survive his stretch. Now, at age 21, he's emerged a haunted, rootless young man with a pressing need: to talk, once again, with psychologist Alex Delaware. But when the young killer comes to a brutal end, that conversation is silenced forever.

As Delaware and Sturgis retrace their steps through a grisly murder case that devastated a community, they discover a chilling legacy of madness, suicide, and multiple killings left in its wake, and even uglier truths waiting to be unearthed. And the nearer they come to understanding an unspeakable crime, the more harrowingly close they get to unmasking a monster hiding in plain sight.

Rage finds Jonathan Kellerman in phenomenal form, orchestrating a relentlessly suspenseful, devilishly unpredictable plot to a finale as stunning and thought-provoking as it is satisfying.

Great story

Another intricate plot with great characters. Kellerman has a gift fee other authors have. My only complaint is how he handles his love interests. Very lame way to get rid of Allison and bringing robin back just drags the whole series down. If you were going to do that there has to be a better way. Maybe he will. Who knows

Unimpressive narrator dulls a decent plot

While the story-line of this book is captive enough, the narrator is just plain awful. There is no animation in his voice and his dialect is regional. It might would fit if the book were set in New York but it's set in California and a the mafia dialect is just totally out of place and distracting from the story. I wish I had another book in my library so I could stop listening to this one and pick up on another. Unfortunately, I guess I must finish this one. Ugh.

Uninspiring

UNINSPIRED - That's the best I can say for this book. I kept waiting for it to put up and appear to have a plot; but it never got off the ground. While I enjoyed The Murder Book, this one leaves me wondering if I'll purchase another Kellerman. What kind of ending was that supposed to be... making you wonder about his & Robin's relationship.

Disappointing

I was looking forward to another Alex Delaware book, but I was really disappointed. I thought the book was predictable and formulaic. Also, I know the narrator tried really hard, but all the different character voices grated on me. I prefer that the book is just read. I think this is a new narrator for his books.

Omigosh not another one!!!!!

This is the second Jonathan Kellerman book that was so disappointing!!! In my las review, I said the later ones are better... Apparently I did not go far enough. At least the narrator, John Rubenstein, was in top form, but alas, even he couldn't save this book.
These two negative reviews won't knock Kellerman/Rubenstein off my latest obsession list, but I cannot afford to keep buying lousy books. I'll try one even MORE recent, and maybe find the point it all came together!
Stay tuned!!! 😉

Racist

This is a gross depiction of privilege. white characters attacking police officers and not being arrested. glorification of only one side of American culture. All characters of color depicted as in articulate bottom rung society members

Oops! It ended?

Not bad until the ending which was so abrupt it came as a total surprise. Alex and Milo never caught the bad folks, one of whom apparently was killed by the other two. At that point Milo goes on vacation. Huge loose end. Not even sure that the guy killed in the end was the murderer, though he was definately a bad guy. I guess that Kellerman must have had something else to do which made him end this as he did.

Rage? No, Just Disgust.

If I had remembered that Jonathan Kellerman was the author of The Murder Book, I would not have bought Rage. Unlike the former, I did manage to finish Rage, but just barely.
The plot is indeed, as one reviewer noted, like a Gordian knot, although an obviously contrived and totally unbelievable one.
At times, the filthy language becomes overwhelming, more so with John Rubinstein's nice job of narration.
Even putting aside the despicable villain, the story has too many disgusting characters and not enough admirable ones. In spite of mild suspense as to how the bad(est) guy would be undone, by the later chapters I was fantasizing about a Tsunami hitting the California coast, washing the whole menagerie away, and bringing the story to a much deserved early ending.
