What a terrific puzzler

If you could sum up Operation Napoleon in three words, what would they be?

I enjoy all of the Indridason Series, but this was an exceptional tale that kept you guessing until the end. George Guidall is the best reader and never fails to make the story enjoyable.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Definately, until the very end we are kept guessing and holding our breath for the heroine. I loved this book and the description of Icelandic life.

Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?

Christine of course

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Made me want more

Operation Nowhere To Run

I really enjoyed reading this. I should have read this, however, in the winter. Some books are very sensory rich, and can be enjoyed even more by immersing yourself into the story elements. This would be a great read while traveling in Iceland, flying on a trip to a new, unfamiliar country, or during a snowstorm, stuck at home. The quick pace kept me interested throughout the tale. I want to hike on Vatnajokull. I want to learn Icelandic. I want to write.

Misbegotten Thriller

I enjoy Indridason's top-notch detective series. Perhaps that fact added to my sense of disappointment with Operation Napoleon. It is about as stale a thriller as can be. The characters are, without exception, one-dimensional and formulaic. The plot is the same old end-of-WWII conspiracy material that's been rehashed hundreds of time.

anti-American story

the story is a backdrop for the author's anti-america views. I wouldn't read anything else by him.

Too much American bashing

Would you try another book from Arnaldur Indridason and/or George Guidall?

George Guidall ABSOLUTELY. Indridason possibly not. I would have to know it was more believable and less about the EVIL American government

What was most disappointing about Arnaldur Indridason’s story?

The unbelievable story

Did George Guidall do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

ABSOLUTELY HE IS THE BEST

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Operation Napoleon?

The entire plot. STAR OVER

The best Indridason so far

I could not put this book down. ( sorry kids!!!!) . You feel like you are in the middle
If the chase. Our main characters take a secondary role in this book, and it was great to see this story briefly intersection Elindur and company and taking off into its climax on its own. Amazing plot construction.

Great

the person reading does wonderfully to put you in the appropriate place in the world for this book, the story keeps up a pace through its entirety until the crescendo and a peaceful ending to depart with.

Alistair MacLean

Another reviewer compared this to an old fashioned alistair Maclean thriller and I agree. One has to suspend belief as with most thrillers but it has a satisfying mix of really bad guys a femme fatale icy locations abs twisty plot. If you like that genre then it’s fir you. A bit long winded on some passages but otherwise a good listen.

Interesting yarn

Well told story that neverthless play fast and loose with significant underlying details of the tale that makes the overall plot rather unbelieveable

Well paced

The novel was plot driven with a heavy emphasis on setting. History and character took a backseat, but the story moved at a satisfying pace. It was engaging with some gore and language scattered, but not overly used.
