The closer Joe comes to the truth behind the outfitter murders, the endangered species and InterWest, the closer he comes to losing everything he holds dear.

It finally grew on me

I had my doubts at first but it finally caught to my liking. I really enjoyed and look forward to the next book.

Good Book

This author is new to me, but I decided to give it a shot. Glad I did it’s a great book!!

Don’t miss this series.

I’ve listened to the entire series and they are all 5 star stories. When I run out of new stories that interest me, I re-listen to books in my library. These are all worth re-listening. You gotta love this family.

Good story. Mediocre narration.

Spoiled by my last series read by Dick Hill. This narrator was choppy and stunted.

Good Basic Story with Flaws

Story is the first in a series that follows Joe Pickett, an honest game warden trying to do the right thing being caught in up in a web of corruption. Joe is a family man with two daughters and another child on the way. What could be a wholesome story is soured by some bad language - especially blasphemous misuse of Jesus' name. There are also a couple 'adult' situations described, and an unbelievable caricature of a redneck funeral. In the end, Joe triumphs by shooting and/or arresting the main villains. The book does critique the environmental protection system as at times a bit of a train wreck.

Good but predictable

It was a good story and well written but was very predictable. Easy listen, would recommend to a friend

Weasels

I liked that the weasels were central to the story. I especially liked the ending.

No matter what you think you know, it will change! What a great story! I cannot wait to get Box next Joe Pickett book!

This is where it all began.......

This is the first book in the Joe Pickett series by CJ Box and to begin with the story was somewhat awkward; however, the more I read the more I had to read. Joe Pickett is a good guy! He tries to live his life by doing the "right thing" in every aspect of his life. He is a vulnerable human being and the author shares this with you. There are some parts of the story that you can not help but to laugh at the "humanness" of the situations. Open Season is an easy read, an enjoyable read; I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading stories where good triumphs over evil.
