Publisher's summary

You’ve lost your job as a department store lingerie buyer, your car’s been repossessed, and most of your furniture and small appliances have been sold off to pay last month’s rent. Now the rent is due again. And you live in New Jersey. What do you do?

If you’re Stephanie Plum, you become a bounty hunter. But not just a nickel-and-dime bounty hunter; you go after the big money. That means a cop gone bad. And not just any cop. She goes after Joe Morelli, a disgraced former vice cop who is also the man who took Stephanie’s virginity at age 16 and then wrote details on a bathroom wall. With pride and rent money on the line, Plum plunges headlong into her first case, one that pits her against ruthless adversaries - people who’d rather kill than lose.

The New York Times Book Review calls Stephanie Plum “a Jersey girl with Bette Middler’s mouth and Cher’s fashion sense.” In Stephanie Plum, Evanovich has created a resourceful and humorous character who stands apart from the pack of gritty female detectives.

Hilarious story-line and total enjoyable time!

I was in search of a new book series and a friend suggested Janet Evanovich and I am SUPER glad! The story-line is really funny and it is enjoyable to listen to without being too deep or dramatic. I couldn't wait for my credits to arrive next month before getting the next book!

Recording sucks.

The book is amazing. The recording on the other hand leaves a lot to be. All the charters voices sound the same. You can here repeats in the back ground and the door squeak as well.

Captivating!

This was an all around fantastic read/listen! The narration was excellent and the reader's voice fit the part perfectly and voiced each role in such a way that I often found myself believing there might be more than just one person voicing each character! There was a great amount of suspense and I had no problem connecting emotionally to the main character. From the first few sentences I was completely invested in this book, which is exactly how any worthwhile read should be! I am absolutely thrilled this series has so many books! I'm starting book #2 today, I'm just that excited to continue the series! I've never been a fiction reader and have always stuck with my True Crime books, but this series may have just sparked a new love for me!

Reconsider "listening" to this book..

I Purchased the audiobook because it was selected for our book club. That is the only reason I finished it. The storyline could possibly be good, however the narrator was so distracting with her heavy breath’s in and the long pauses and sometimes the inability to distinguish between male voices. Also there were is very little in flexion and it felt as if she had and read the book before she started recording. Will definitely steer clear of audiobooks recorded by Critt in the future.

Stephanie Plum is great fun.

Characters are funny. There's just enough hit stuff an SP is hilarious.
I've read them all and One...starts the series off with a bang!

Silly story

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I think this book is just silly. There is no depth. I would like to see some suspense in it.

What was most disappointing about Janet Evanovich???s story?

I bought the book because I saw a review by some celebrities on TV say it was so good. I was so disappointed that it was slow, shallow, and dumb story.

Have you listened to any of C. J. Critt’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

All of them. She is a great narrator.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Lots of laughs.
