Publisher's summary

Based on true events, but unlike anything you've ever heard before, number-one New York Times best-selling author Nelson DeMille has created what may be his finest work to date.

At dusk on July 17, 1996, on a deserted Long Island beach, a man and a woman engage in adulterous sex in front of a video camera. Suddenly a terrible blast lights up the dark summer sky. TWA Flight 800 has just exploded in midair with 230 souls onboard, and the video camera has recorded the last moments of the doomed airliner.

Five years later the government has declared the crash a result of mechanical failure. But John Corey, an ex-NYPD detective who is now a contract agent with the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force, is persuaded by Kate Mayfield, his wife and task force partner, that the case deserves a second look.

Kate, a career FBI agent, plays by the rules. Corey plays by no rules but his own. Against long odds and warnings from their superiors, they set out to reopen the case and discover its most crucial piece of evidence. The hunt will lead to a conspiracy at the highest levels and a race toward an elusive and lethal truth that could be even more horrifying than the crash of Flight 800, one with unimaginable consequences for America...and the world.

I can't get enough of John Corey

This is the third in the John Corey series and it did not disappoint. I love John Corey's sarcastic sense of humor and distaste for authority figures. A man after my own heart! Fiction based loosely on historical events can be fascinating and really gets your imagination going. the downing of TWA flight 800 is the event in this book. The plot is enthralling and I really didn't see the ending coming.. Scott Brick does an excellent job of narration as usual.

Another John Corey thriller

My wife and I listened to "Night Fall" this past week on a long road trip. It was compelling, funny and always interesting throughout. We can't wait to get to the next book in the series.

Very good

I enjoyed the book quite a bit. I could see the end coming a million miles away (seeing the timeline from which this started). So I can't say I was totally upset. I highly recommend.

Couldn't put it down

Great story and moved at lightening speed.

I gave a rather harsh review of The Charm School and can't go back to edit it so will comment here. The first third was not good (as mentioned in that review) however, the last 2 sections held my attention and at the end I can say I enjoyed it and am glad I didn't give up on it too early.

Good plot but not great

Interesting plot but Corey's sarcasm is too toned down. That takes away the uniqueness of the character and reduces the book to just a good thriller.

A great story and a startling end

The first 30 minutes captured my attention and wouldn't let go. Scott Brick gives an excellent performance, as he always does. The characters are easy to identify during the performance which makes for a very enjoyable experience, no guessing who is that speaking. Nelson has written another thrilling adventure, pitting John Corey against the evil-doers.
You will be glad you chose this story, enjoy

Kept me on the edge of my seat

Would you consider the audio edition of Night Fall to be better than the print version?

I do not know. I prefer audio books to listen to when I am quilting or doing other things.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Didn't really have one. I guess the detective who is telling the story.

Which scene was your favorite?

The description of the scene on the beach.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, just very fascinated with the details of the investigation of the explosion of TWA 800. I like a book that makes me think and question AND is not predictable. This book falls into the category of historical fiction.

Any additional comments?

I have never been a fan of any particular author before Nelson DeMille. He definitely does his research which makes the books so interesting to me. The Charm School is another favorite.
