Publisher's summary

All her life, Sara Gallagher has wondered about her birth parents. As an adopted child with two sisters who were born naturally to her parents, Sara did not have an ideal home life. The question of why she was given up for adoption has always haunted her. Finally, she is ready to take steps and to find closure. But some questions are better left unanswered.

After months of research, Sara locates her birth mother - only to be met with horror and rejection. Then she discovers the devastating truth: Her mother was the only victim ever to escape a killer who has been hunting women every summer for decades. But Sara soon realizes the only thing worse than finding out about her father is for him to find out about her. What if murder is in your blood?

Never Knowing is a complex and compelling portrayal of one woman’s quest to understand herself, her origins, and her family. That is, if she can survive....

Narrator Spoils the Mood

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This book is fine for passing the time on my morning commute and the story was interesting.

What didn’t you like about Carrington MacDuffie’s performance?

The narrator's voice does not match the character at all. Her voice sounds older and harsh, almost manly. It makes it impossible to picture the character as an attractive woman in her early thirties. Also, the only emotions she conveys are exasperation and whining. Her narration was a distraction.

Was Never Knowing worth the listening time?

Another great book by Chevy Stevens

I really enjoyed listening to this book. This author never disappoints with her twists in the story. My only complaint was the choice of story narrator in this case. I just never felt like the voice matched the character. Other than that, I highly recommend it.

Wanted More

I really love Chevy Stevens, so was excited to read Never Knowing while being out of town for a work meeting. When this started I thought I was going to be freaked out reading this in a hotel room by myself. It starts off by learning about a serial killer. However; this fell flat for me. I was expecting a heart pounding thriller, and I just kept waiting for that moment for the story to be over the edge. Most of the action is between phone calls with Sara and the killer. I found it dragged on a little too much and was a little too repetitive. I wanted something else to happen. Even towards the end I was waiting for the twist on who the killer may be, and it never came. The twist that did come just did not work for me. It was pretty predictable as well. Overall, this was still pretty good but did not meet my expectations coming from an author that normally blows me away.

Cringe

I love the author very methodical and great twists . This book was extremely hard to listen too as the reader voice was too childish and annoying in her dialect. Her voice for the child almost sent me over the edge sounding like a bad horror movie from the 50’s . I hope to hear more of this author but never again with this reader . I enjoyed one other book who was read by another woman. ...........................I have nothing more to add but can’t leave this feedback without meeting the word requirements 🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿😿

Twisty turns !

Would you listen to Never Knowing again? Why?

No, one time is enough.

Who was your favorite character and why?

John, one of the bad dads.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I don't think she fit. The book is dark and serious and her voice was chirpy happy.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

No idea.

Any additional comments?

I liked the book and the narrator was good but I don't think she really went with the mood and main character of the book. Really chirpy happy a lot of the times.

I'm doing an overhead High-5 because I guessed the second killer way early. In fact, I think that some of those gals that were killed were done by the same guy to try to speed things along.

Enjoyed the book, worth a read/listen to.
