Publisher's summary

A gripping thriller about three young girlfriends, a dark obsession, and a chilling crime that shakes up a quiet Iowa town, from the New York Times best-selling author of The Weight of Silence.

For 12-year-old Cora Landry and her friends Violet and Jordyn, it was supposed to be an ordinary sleepover - movies and Ouija and talking about boys. But when they decide to sneak out to go to the abandoned rail yard on the outskirts of town, little do they know that their innocent games will have dangerous consequences.

Later that night, Cora Landry is discovered on the tracks, bloody and clinging to life, her friends nowhere to be found. Soon, their small rural town is thrust into a maelstrom. Who would want to hurt a young girl like Cora - and why? In an investigation that leaves no stone unturned, everyone is a suspect and no one can be trusted - not even those closest to Cora.

Before She Was Found is a timely and gripping thriller about friendship and betrayal, about the power of social pressure and the price of needing to fit in. It is about the great lengths a parent will go to protect their child and keep them safe - even if that means burying the truth, no matter the cost.

Well done!

I have listened to all of the Heather Gudenkauf titles on Audible and was delighted that a new one was just released. The story bears more than a little resemblance to the Slenderman case but was so much more. The plot was interesting and kept me guessing, the characters were well fleshed out and Brittany Pressley did a fantastic job with the narration. Now that I know "who done it" I want to listen again and see what clues I missed.

Just an ok read

At first the pre-teen dialog was pretty annoying but I kept reading to see "who dunnit". After I finished the book I did come away with a new appreciation of what small things can do to impact life. Without giving away anything, the chain reactions in this book really made me ponder. The ending was unexpected, which made the whole book better.

Beefier She Was Found

I really liked this book. It’s shocking the things that kids can do to each other. I’m sure this has happened somewhere in the world today.
I was totally shocked at the ending of the book, I didn’t expect it at all!

Eh.....could’ve done without this one.

The narrator made some characters so whiny I actually started disliking the character. I judge a book by my emotional response and I never felt connected to any of the story.

Pretty good read

A little predictable but still a good vacation read. Narrator was good with a pleasant voice.

A twisted story -pun intended

Didn’t see the twist coming. I wanted to read this book without stopping but too busy with life to stop and finish it all

Before She was Found

Wow what an emotional book, with such a twisted ending. I just didn't want to put it down and totally scared me to how real this could be in today's world. A really excellent book. The reading was excellent.

Wow

The book kept me guessing all the way through - and had me audibly gasp at a number of points. Bravo! Great drama/mystery!

Before what?

The narration of the adolescent voice was fake baby talk. So bad that I almost didn’t want to read the book. But I plowed my way through, trying to ignore the whining. Most of the first 3/4 of the book was fairly interesting. It was almost certainly (if very loosely) built on the true Slender Man murders. The problem was the structure. It built to several crescendos without giving us a decent ending. It’s my opinion that the author could have used the same ending, and made it interesting. It wasn’t. It was three chapters of a letdown. "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln…"
