"Need it be said, the little grey cells solve once more the seemingly insoluble. Mrs Christie makes an improbable tale very real, and keeps her readers enthralled and guessing to the end." (Times Literary Supplement)
A lover of audiobooks of all kinds, since childhood, when long car journeys were accompanied by Discworld stories. @ReineDesLivres (Twitter)
David Suchet is practically synonymous with Agatha Christie's Poirot, so it's simply wonderful that this audiobook is read by Suchet. His characterisations are perfect, subtle and entertaining, which make these audiobooks great listening. This tale of murder and mystery is enthralling listening, so settle in - you're in for a real treat.
The character of the dectivie
The first meeting with the other travellers
Although I did not - I wanted to glisten in one settings. I fell asleep- late in the night and had to rewind the final sections.
Just keep the books coming.
This audio book is one that I could listen to again and again mainly because of Suchet's amazing performance as Poirot and an assortment of characters from different nationalities. It's a blast and I get the impression that Suchet had a jolly time doing it.
Suchet is really at the top of his game here. I've also enjoyed The Mysterious Affair at Styles, which I've listened to multiple times.
The Murder on the Orient Express isn't one of Christie's more believable puzzles but Christie was a superb storyteller and with Suchet in the driver's seat here, the ride is worth every penny.
Old favourite, beautifully read by David Suchet (for many Christie fans, the definitive Poirot). Lovely audio book!
Captivating, thoughtful, enjoyable.
Mrs. Hubbard - just a quirky character.
Everything. Loved Suchet in the series but hadn't realised his skills in bringing a book to life before. Such a wide variety of accents and voices - really wonderful. Such nuances can easily be missed in the book.
That would give too much away.
Can't recommend this audio enough. If you love Suchet then you can't go wrong plus this has some subtle but important differences to the TV version.
Yes, I already did! It's a great detective, albeit a little old fashioned in places. For me that was part of the charm, though.
It was the first time I read a book from this author and although it was good, I feel David Suchet's narrating just made the book for me. Wonderful.
Laugh, often, and loudly!
"First-rate reading of a mystery classic..."
This unabridged reading of one of Agatha Christie’s best-known and best-loved books is great fun. David Suchet, the perfect TV Poirot, here gets to show off the amazing range of his acting talent. There are about 15 characters in the book, half of them women, from a variety of different countries and Suchet manages to sustain a different voice and characterisation for each. Yes, occasionally he goes a bit OTT (the Russian Princess for instance) but that adds to the enjoyment – Suchet understands that Christie’s books are first and foremost light-hearted fun.
Christie shows off her usual winning formula here – a baffling crime, a limited number of suspects, each interviewed by Poirot, and then the dénouement as Poirot reveals both murderer and method. What stops the books from becoming repetitive is that there is usually an unexpected twist and this book is no exception. Once you know whodunit, it’s easy to look back and see that Christie, more perhaps than any other crime-writer, plays fair with the reader – all the clues are there, we see everything Poirot sees, but can we work it out before he does?
This is a first-rate reading of a deserved classic of the mystery genre. Enjoy!
"Perfect Poirot !"
Everyone knows David Suchet can do a perfect voice for Poirot from the TV series, but perhaps less well known is that he's a great narrator and has a whole range of other men's and women's voices and accents which he can deliver with equal eloquence - you're never in any doubt about who's talking and the story really comes to life. A thouroughly enjoyable listen :)
My favourite Agatha Christie story, read in perfect tones and unabridged so you don't miss a thing. Simply fabulous!
My favourite Christie book read by one of my favourite actors. David Suchet does an outstanding job.
