Years later - after another bolt of lightning - the stranger returned, again to save Laura from tragedy. Was he the guardian angel he seemed? The devil in disguise? Or the master of a haunting destiny beyond time and space?

"The paradox in time travel's tampering with history provides an interesting twist in this gripping thriller by a popular writer." (Library Journal)
"Fast paced and satisfying." (People)
I first fell in love with Dean Koontz via 'Odd Thomas'. Odd's story remains one of my favorites as have some of his other titles (The Watcher is a must read). Lightening Road is a very satisfying read. The thing about Koontzs' work that I love is his ability to transport me immediately to the scene and keep me on the edge of my seat. I felt the same way about Lightening Road. Loved the characters, their struggle and undying hope. It is well worth your time.
Sure, I'd love to hear your story....
Perfect book for when you want a bit of adventure, a bit of drama, and a bit of fun. Koontz wrote some great characters to star and co-star in this story with wide appeal. While it won't put you on the edge of your seat it will keep you greatly entertained.
This is a great listen... a suspenseful page turner with lots of twists and turns... the plot really thicken towards the end. There is a lot of action (shootem up) but not over the top. I cared about what happened to the characters. A great performance by Christopher Lane who performs with multiple voices and accents. This story had me on the edge of my seat at times and is more futuristic than not... is he the devil or an angel? why is he watching her? first as a baby, then child and finally as a young lady... Koontz ties it up nicely in the end. There are minor characters that have great parts to play too. I'm glad I read the reviews on this one! Worth the time listening and the chip spent.
Kneel Before Zod!!
Nothing really stands out, as a fan of Dean Koontz I believe this may not be up there with some of his other books.
yes, I'm a fan of his work.
Did a good job, despite the story falling apart.
Myst/thrillers, some contemporary and ✨fun fantasies✨are my favorites but always open for a good story.
Very inventive, solid story about the life of one special girl and a man who is fighting his own internal battle between good and evil. The story moves along pretty fast with just a few places that lagged but there are good characters that make up for it.
I am reading another Koontz book and I can't help thinking that if I had read this one I would have enjoyed it more. The narrator does good voices but his regular narration is very monotone. To each his own.
This was my first reading of Dean Koontz, and won't be my last. So glad it was on sale, so I could give this author a try.,
The story is quite mysterious from the start, and keeps you guessing all the way through the book. Found myself laughing and crying in this book, and that's what makes a novel a 5 star for me. I love to get wrapped up with the characters lives, letting my emotions go. It's very well written and the narration was excellent.
I loved Odd Thomas. I loved Watchers. So I looked for the highest rated Dean Koontz book on Audible. And this is it. So maybe I was just a little disappointed. It's an okay story but I don't think it is as good as the other two.
Better than Forever Odd, but not as good as Watchers or Odd Thomas.
He does a good job of reading the story.
No, the characters covered the full spectrum.
I think my expectations were too high.
I love time-travel stories, but this one took way too long to develop. Maybe I should have purchased the abridged version. I really wanted to like it, but overall, I can't say that I did.
My wife says she can read me like an open book. Though she regrets not being able to shut me up the same way. :)
A compelling story right from the start. It weaves and turns, but kudos to Mr. Koontz as he manages to catch all the potential loose ends that tend to get left hanging in other stories tackling a similar theme. Great job. Great twists.
I have to also give huge kudos to the reader, Christopher Lane. Mr. Lane's command of multiple voices, styles, accents and inflections made listening to this story such a compelling read. Well done.
I actually enjoyed listening to the narrator. The narrator was one of the positives related to this story. I thought the variety provided to the characters' voices was very good and realistic. In addition, I loved the first part of this story up until the "guardian angel's" identity and background was revealed. What a disappointment. If you like science fiction, you may like the changes. In my opinion, the change was a disruption to the plot line and really did not fit into what I expected. A lot of mumbo jumbo that was really not part of the story. (I think that I have seen the movie on which this may have been based.) I have stopped listening to the story because of the unrealistic and abrupt twist to the plot and characters. The change in behavior and personalities of the heroine and her son was incredulous. It was like a different story was inserted into the one that I was listening to and I missed the transition. I was not prepared for the ridiculousness of the second part. I may go back and finish listening, but not anytime soon. I wish I could give 2.5 stars.
"Excellent book - superbly read"
My husband is the Dean Koontz fan. I bought this in order that we could sit and listen to this together whilst I was knitting and he was not knitting! I fould it an excellently thought out book if a little 'strange' at first but coming to a fast paced finale. It was excellently read and I have to admit to a 'go faster, section that did my knitting no good at all. Really enjoyable.
"Another winner from Koontz"
I seem to find excuses to stay with Koontz' books and take every opportunity to keep listening. Again this has an interesting plot and great narrator ..and you just want to know what is going on.
"How good can a book be..."
OUTSTANDING.... I have listened to many audio books and this is one of those that just kept getting better, I could imagine it as a film easy.. great characters great story...if you listen to nothing else then listen to this...that is only my opinion?
"Great!! Well thought out"
I read this book many years ago and loved it then. Thought I would get it on audio to remind me if it was as good as I remembered and it was. Not your usual Dean Koontz Story but brilliant just the same. the charicters are well thought out and loveable. You feel the need to finish it to find out what happens to Laura through her life to see if she lives or dies???
What can I say Koontz at his finest and narrated very, very well.
Buy you will enjoy.
"different but still good"
Great listen, great narration, not the normal Koontz ( of the few I have read), but very gripping. well worth getting
"Slow Start But Stick With It."
Struggled at first but glad I persisted. Confusing, complex but brilliant. Off to by the kindle version.
"Gripping and thrilling"
A love story with a major difference, leaving you to wonder if this could have been possible !!!!!!!!! What if ? Do we all have a guardian?
As ever Dean's ability to transport the reader into the book and let us feel as if we are living it was excellent.
He read well. I enjoyed listening to him and will hope he reads more of Dean's books.
"Great listen !"
Well read, I couldn't put this down , even listened in the shower !
References in the book mention back to the future which it does give a nod to,
Can't pick one , good twists all the way through
Lightening can strike twice
Thoroughly enjoyed this book it was sad, exciting, nerve racking stuff all the way to the end.
Whenever lightning strikes her guardian angel comes to save her. How many times can he alter her future? Where does he come from? Can he save her that one last time when she really needs him? Great listen, enjoy it!
