Dr. Toby Harper works the night shift in an emergency room. She spends her daytime hours alone with her mother who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. When elderly Alzheimer's patients from the same retirement home start dying mysteriously, Toby is the only one suspicious enough to investigate. As a result she finds herself, her mother, and her own sanity at risk.

"Grabs you and holds you from page one....Be prepared to drop all your obligations until you finish." (John Saul)
"Richly drawn hospital scenes....Chilling science...and breathless ER-style pacing.... A quick, delightfully scary read." (People)
"[A] spine-tingling medical chiller....The pieces in this adeptly crafted Rubik's cube don't click into place until the final page." (Publisher's Weekly)
Tess Gerritsen is a great mystery writer. I have read her work in the past and this is the first audible book of hers that I have bought. The narrator is good and the character development is great. If you are looking for something that will entertain you and allow long drives to fly by, this is for you.
Yes I would listen to it again. This was the 4th book I've read or listened to by Tess Gerritsen and so far I've not been disapointed.
The medical mystery.
Mother of 3, grandmother of 6, retired nurse and substance abuse counselor. Thrilled to have the time to read or listen to books again.
good book, the story line was not at all what i expected but it kept me intrigued. i wondered though if the medical terminology may cause problems for readers with no medical back ground, but it seemed as though the author tried hard not to let that happen. it was gruesome at times especially the birth scenes but they were a necessary part of the story. i was a bit disappointed in the ending, it felt incomplete to me as far as solving the case was concerned and the finale' with the main characters.
the narrator was great.
Good story, enjoyed the characters, and the ending came together more logically than the previous Gerritsen book I read, Bloodstream (yes, with another female doctor). Parts of the book were riveting so that I took a few extra minutes to listen before I had to turn off my iPOD before work. Lots of medical detail, all ok with me because I am in the medical field, but I thought it may be way too much for average non-medical person. One of those books you can do at the beach. Looking forward to my 3rd TG book, Bone Garden!
I liked how the author tied everything all together...at first things seemed unconnected and then it became clear that everything fit...very well done
I liked drawing it out over several sessions.
overall his voice keeps you reflects emotion and is very easy to listen to.
This is another great medical thriller by Tess Gerritsen.
I enjoyed this mystery because it had suspense and it wasn't all blood and gore. The main character had to actually use her brains and figure out what was going on.
It doesn't rank very high on my list.
The plot did not keep me on the edge.
Not really. Just listened because I had nothing else to listen to.
concept to think about-organ selling has been shown in multiple countries and makes you wonder if it does not happen more often
the police officer-he was very authentic but compassionate
no-but i did look forward to each listening session
I am brutally honest. Popular, love everything they read, reviewers are scared to go neg. and risk their ranking. It's your money!!!
ALL FETUSES ARE PARASITES
This is probably my favorite book by Gerritsen, which is saying a lot, since I like most of what she writes. The technology is dated but the moral issues and the if and how we handle body tissues is a hot topic today.
HOW DO I FIGHT BACK WHEN I'M BEING ATTACKED ON ALL SIDES
Just like in Harvest, Tess digs a hole so deep for her main character, a female physician, you are at odds in how she will get out. Her main character is a no holds barred do what is right type of person, come hell or high water. With Gerritsen you never have to worry about being bored. Each chapter has something of significant happen. Tess does not use fillers.
MAD COW DISEASE
Guidall is one of the best, if not the best in his craft.
A wonderful gripping thriller with great twists and turns throughout.
Narrator is brilliant. A clear voice and reforms with crescendo when needed.
Please excuse any typos it's 2am and I have blurry eyes. Insomnia is now a happy tome thanks to audible but it can't help blurred sleepy vision.
"Life Support; Gripping, hard to put down"
I love this book. I can't rate it higher than I have already even though I really think it deserves more!
The story was a little hazy to begin with but I found once you listen carefully, the plot begins to unfurl, twisting and turning as it does. It is as though there are several storylines going on at once, but; that is all to be revealed in the bigger picture.
I found it so very gripping, I couldn't put it down. The narrators read very clearly and it was a total pleasure to listen to.
If you like thrillers, I can highly recommend this one!!
Really enjoy Tess Gerritsen books and this is no exception. I like these books because I feel they are always ''going'' somewhere and by that I mean I find them good fun to read - never boring.
Characters good, plot - not to my taste but cannot help but enjoy her books.
