David Baldacci brings back Sean King and Michelle Maxwell - former Secret Service agents turned private investigators, featured in the hit TNT TV series King & Maxwell - in their most surprising, personal, and dangerous case ever....
It seems at first like a simple, tragic story. Tyler Wingo, a teenage boy, learns the awful news that his father, a soldier, was killed in action in Afghanistan. Then the extraordinary happens: Tyler receives a communication from his father...after his supposed death.
Tyler hires Sean and Michelle to solve the mystery surrounding his father. But their investigation quickly leads to deeper, more troubling questions. Could Tyler's father really still be alive? What was his true mission? Could Tyler be the next target?
Sean and Michelle soon realize that they've stumbled on to something bigger and more treacherous than anyone could have imagined. And as their hunt for the truth leads them relentlessly to the highest levels of power and to uncovering the most clandestine of secrets, Sean and Michelle are determined to help and protect Tyler - though they may pay for it with their lives.

Kept us guessing. Makes for an enjoyable road trip. Chose these voices for another of our favorite authors book.
Was that really a truck I hear? I had to go back and listen again. I don't remember listening to any books with sound effects. It did add to the performance.
The storytelling was delightful. David Baldacci did a wonderful job in writing King and Maxwell, with interesting plot, good character development and captivating turns in the events. The narration was high quality, just as I would expect from Ron and Orleigh.
The plot was interesting, the characters were likable, and the narration was excellent.
the story line and the characters
I could if I had the time.
Baldacci, and his editor, gave a pretty half-baked effort on this - the story was basically a good plot line, but it was very loose, not well written or thought out, and it read like he wrote it quickly to get it out there, and the editor didn't give much thought - not only were a lot of the plot details pretty weak, but there were even grammatical errors and sloppy contextual mistakes that were pretty stupid.
He really weakened a strong basic plot line.
He has done, and can do, much better.
it is one of the best, I liked the series so much that I shared it with my wife and she is listening to the series
yes, it did, you thought you had it figured out and then the author threw in a new twist
I think the very last where King comforts his ex and then shares with Michelle
also did not listen, because of bad review about the readers, but that would have been a mistake. I can not wait to the next book
I've enjoyed Baldacci's work in the past, and wanted to like this one.
I felt that much of the dialogue (especially between the two leads) was sappy...pure drivel. Not worthy of my time. And while I have enjoyed some of McLarty's work in the past...I didn't enjoy this one. Especially his terrible character voice for the teenage kid and the computer sleuth. Cassidy was OK, but not impressive. Just felt like another day's work for the voices.
I nearly bailed on this a few chapters in...but ended up sticking with it. It picked up somewhat around Chapter 70. But there were just too many dead spots for me to recommend it. Pretty disappointing. A very average experience.
Love Sci-Fi, country western mysteries and JD Robb
I love the relationship between the two King and Maxwell. The dialogue and story left me wanting more.
None. It stands alone as a super mystery adventure story.
It was interesting how the sound effects added to the story and were not overwhelming. Very well done.
Really enjoyed this. Got my attention and I had my earphones with me until I finished. Always enjoy good sarcasm and the chemistry with the duo made the book. I'm looking for Book 2. Would definitely recommend it.
