Publisher's summary

Craig Johnson’s rough-and-tumble hero Walt Longmire is quickly becoming a fan-favorite and a critical success.

Here Walt has his hands full as greedy land developers employ shady, violent methods to reverse their fortunes in recession-racked Wyoming, where the owners of a multi-million dollar development of ranchettes want to get rid of the adjacent junk-yard. When a severed thumb is discovered in the yard, conflicts erupt, and Walt Longmire, his trusty companion Dog, life-long friend Henry Standing Bear, and deputies Santiago Saizarbitoria and Victoria Moretti find themselves in a small town that feels more and more like a high plains pressure cooker.

“It’s the scenery—and the big guy standing in front of the scenery—that keeps us coming back to [these] lean and leathery mysteries.” ( New York Times Book Review)

love this series love the narrator

this series is one of the best I have listened to in a long while. the narrator George Guidell is one of the best narrators and it perfect for this series. better than reading it on my own because of his voice

Very good, not his best

Good story, seemed a little shorter, lighter on a bigger picture plot. In this, Walt is a straight forward ‘get it done’ kinda guy. Lots of ‘four letter words’ though.

Another Winner

Loved this. My only complaint with the Longmire stories is that I wish they wouldn't end. Craig Johnson knows his characters, and he knows storytelling. Plenty of wry humor worked in throughout. I have truly come to love these characters over the 4-or-so books I've listened to so far.

And what can one say about George Guidall? I have never heard anyone better...and he is truly at his peak with these characters....he simply OWNS these voices and brings tremendous value with his voice. I actually found this book (I missed it when it came out) because I was searching for more Guidall readings. He is the master. Too bad he wasn't selected for the new Brad Thor book as well. I had wanted to buy that one, too...but the guy chosen just couldn't pass muster with me, even for the length of the demo.

Craig and George!

It just doesn't get any better. Will Patton as Robicheaux is good. Mantegna as Spenser. Buy,enjoy. Don't worry about that guy's review saying we should care whether a Luger had 5 or 9 rounds etc.

Another dazzling Walt Longmire tale<br />

I love these books immensely. Craig Johnson's wit and wisdom come pouring through my headphones, and George Guidall is one of those narrators I'll trust with any material. The pairing is superb. This is cowboy stuff for the passionate philosopher crowd, constantly reminding us that the heart is a damned muscle, and it's gonna take a beating, and give one right back.

Great story but hate the language

As always, the story is captivating and the writer is creative and excellent in his use of the English language. How unfortunate he demeans himself with the use of the F word so often.

more greatness

Being raised on a rural area then spending 30 years in mega large cities now back home it is fun to relate back to yesterday's world. Everyone knows everyone and the outward friendliness does not mean everyone is your friend. Overall the characters and interactions are outstanding the story line keeps you turning the pages.

One Of The Best In The Series

I know it’s wrong, but part of the fun in this one is how poor Walt kept getting the snot knocked out of him in different degrees (Including dog teeth in the butt). I think the author really likes having fun with Walt having so many things happen to him.

I’ve enjoyed all the Longmire books I’ve heard so far (I think I have them all now). In these times of so much nasty news out there I find Longmire books to be a nice escape.
