Publisher's summary

She was one of the most sought after women in the world. A top model who would stop at nothing to get what she wanted - even another woman's man. And now she was dead, the victim of a brutal murder. Police lieutenant Eve Dallas put her professional life on the line to take the case when suspicion fell on her best friend, the other woman in the fatal love triangle.

Beneath the façade of glamour, Eve found that the world of high fashion thrived on an all-consuming obsession for youth and fame. One that led from the runway to the dark underworld of New York City where drugs could be found to fulfill any desire - for a price.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

J D Robb is wonderful!!!!

Hubby & I both love Eve Dallas and all the other story players. We have all of the "in Death" books. He doesn't like to sit down and read but he will listen to audiobooks in the car. We have sat in the driveway to listen until we find a stopping point.... That's how great these stories are... Now I'm putting them on my MP3 player.
These stories are A+++++.

Early Eve is interesting, good story

It's been years since I read/listened to the earliest "in death' books, & I'd forgotten that Eve started out as a realistic, reasonable character, as opposed to the one-note, cast-iron, bad-mannered, short-tempered bee-yatch she turned into. I suppose it's hard not to get lazy when you're expected to turn out two books a year, but Robb (Roberts*) went downhill fast. Eve became a caricature of herself later, but in the first few books she's actually a moderately interesting, complicated character, considering the genre. She's tough without being unreasonable, whereas later on, "strong" merely means she has a hair-trigger violent temper and no manners whatsoever --the very opposite of manners.

Peabody starts to make a bigger showing in this one, which is a good thing as (at least IMO), she's a more interesting character than Eve is, and she stays that way over the dozens of books to follow, growing & changing far more than any other character. She gets her first love interest & it plays a big part here, & sets the tone for her being such a sympathetic & likable character.

Roarke isn't such a doormat this time around, either; when Eve is a witch, he makes it clear he's not happy about it, unlike later when, practically no matter how viciously she abuses him, he just strokes the dent in her chin & says how adorable she is. And even more astonishingly, early Eve actually apologizes when she's been a jerk! This is unthinkable in the later books.

"Immortal" has all the elements that made folks like me get involved in the series to start with; the developing relationship between Eve & Roarke, between Eve & Peabody, Eve galloping to the rescue in some murderous intrigue, sprinklings of humor.

I really don't know if I'll be able to read/listen to the later books again, after being re-introduced to the reason I got hooked on them in the first place. Eve didn't start out a nasty, bad-mannered witch, she just turned into one. I think Robb just got lazy.

*actually, I can't even imagine how many books she cranks out a year between her various pen names, or if they're written by committee or underlings, like some other 'romance' novelists.

Excellent

If you could sum up Immortal in Death in three words, what would they be?

Susan Ericksen is the best narrator I have heard. All of the different characters had different voices and different accents and she made them all so believable. The book it's self is great as well. Otherwise I would not have been listening to the third book.

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

All great!

EVE DALLAS DEFENDS HER FRIEND

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it's an early and very enjoyable Eve Dallas story. She's getting married and about to look at wedding dresses with her best friend Mavis. Before long Mavis is accused of murdering a top model. Despite evidence and the police brass against her, Eve believes in Mavis and stakes her career on it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Immortal in Death?

When the tough cop Eve Dallas goes to pieces worrying about her friend in jail.

Which character – as performed by Susan Ericksen – was your favorite?

Eve Dallas - as always. She does a tremendous job with all the characters.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

EVE TAKES ON NEW YORK TO SAVE HER FRIEND

getting better - trigger warning

I love how the characters are developing and each story line is extremely interesting. This book at all the feels. I cried during one part, which will be a trigger for some.
Eve and Roark are planning their wedding, some more reluctant than others. Love how Roark is with her. He is extremely patient and knows just what she needs. I had a feeling I know who the bad guy was in this one and was not disappointed. Hope she gets to turn everything off on her honeymoon, she certainly deserves a break. During this investigation the new drug is on the market and it causes the user to become extremely addicted an extremely violent. It is also a slow acting poison. People are dying left and right and Eve is trying to figure it out to ensure that her best friend is not railroaded. Is she up to the task before she gets killed? Of course she is she's Eve Dallas.

Still Listening

Any additional comments?

This book was amazing! I absolutely adored it. I AGAIN guessed the murderer very early on in the book BUT there was so much going on, that I kept second guessing myself! The murder investigation, the illegal drug investigation, Eve and Roarkes upcoming wedding preparations, and so much more! I definitely did not know how they were going to tie the "Immortal" part into the book, but it was not anything that I had expected at all.
Bravo J.D. Robb!

Great listen!

Love the different voices Susan gives the characters. Don't like how she says Peabuddy for Peabody!
