Publisher's summary

Something terrible has happened in the snowbound village of Kingdom Come, Wyoming, where 12 eerily identical houses stand dark and abandoned. Meals remain untouched on dining room tables, cars are still in garages, and the town's residents have vanished into thin air. This is the disturbing setting where vacationing medical examiner Maura Isles and her traveling companions find themselves trapped during a ferocious snowstorm. Thinking they've found a safe haven, they soon realize that they are not alone in the valley....someone is watching.

After one of their party is injured, Maura sets out to find help. But just as she leaves the village, she is attacked and dragged into the woods. A blow falls and the world goes black. Searching for her friend and colleague, police detective Jane Rizzoli's investigation leads her to the abandoned valley and a gruesome discovery. But it turns out Maura's not dead--she's on the run, forced to place her life in the hands of the unlikely savior who has kept her alive until now: a 16-year-old boy.

Not the correct narrator...

I am typically such a fan of Tess' work, that the narration wouldn't matter so much, but this narration is so awful I couldn't enjoy the story. At one point, I considered not finishing it because I find it so disturbing and so inappropriate for this story. Just for the sake of knowing how the story ends, I will continue.

Pretty Good

The book was o.k. not my favorite of the series. The narration could have prejudiced me as I had a lot of trouble getting into the book due to the bland narration.

Interesting plot/a lot of cussing

The book had a great plot but it seems there was a lot of unnecessary usage of vulgar words. The person narrating didn't have a wide variety of tones in her voice for changing between characters maybe would have been better using a male voice for male persons in the story. I think it would have been better for the overview of the story to include the unsavory part of the story which was emphasized with vulgarity.

Part of a series

This book is part of the Rizzolli & Isles investigative duo. It focuses on Dr. Isles, and lets the reader see into her much more clearly. The story also leaves the usual setting, and Isles seems to be maturing in some ways. It's an entertaining story, with a good story line, I enjoyed it a lot.

A letdown

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. I kept trying to get into the story, but it was too slow to keep my interest high.

What could Tess Gerritsen have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I found too many long periods of 'nothing going on'.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I think the narration helped create the slowness.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

Unputdownable

This was my first Rizzoli & Isles title and was I blown away!

Superb storyline, descriptions so vivid you get immersed in the plot's environs in no time and totally unpredictable!

Not for a moment did the narrative lose its momentum or its allure.

The narration is excellent as well, yet another factor that made the scenic descriptions come alive and haunt you.

Brrrrr!

This one kept me on the edge of my seat (figuratively) throughout the book. Excellent descriptions (I actually started shivering!), puzzling twists, and a satisfactory resolution to the story. Well-narrated, in that I didn't notice the narrator - that is truly well-done.

Eerily Disturbing

Where are they, All the people? Why were the homes left seemingly in a second ? What will we find to give us a hint about what has happened here?
