Publisher's summary

Something terrible has happened in the snowbound village of Kingdom Come, Wyoming, where 12 eerily identical houses stand dark and abandoned. Meals remain untouched on dining room tables, cars are still in garages, and the town's residents have vanished into thin air. This is the disturbing setting where vacationing medical examiner Maura Isles and her traveling companions find themselves trapped during a ferocious snowstorm. Thinking they've found a safe haven, they soon realize that they are not alone in the valley....someone is watching.

After one of their party is injured, Maura sets out to find help. But just as she leaves the village, she is attacked and dragged into the woods. A blow falls and the world goes black. Searching for her friend and colleague, police detective Jane Rizzoli's investigation leads her to the abandoned valley and a gruesome discovery. But it turns out Maura's not dead--she's on the run, forced to place her life in the hands of the unlikely savior who has kept her alive until now: a 16-year-old boy.

Suriprsing thrilling all too believable

The story is ripped from several headlines and woven into a tapestry embroidered with complex characters you come to despise with a visceral force - or whose humanity makes you care about them like close friends and in whose survival you have a deep emotional stake. Beautifuly converted into vibrant audio.

Chilling story with a lot of twists and turns!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I passed this up on my list several times even though I usually like Tess Gerritsen's books. The review didn't depict the book's story very well. This is a really interesting story with believable characters that I recognized as characters in one of my favorite tv series.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I couldn't put this down waiting for the next event to happen.

What does Tanya Eby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I thought the narrator did a great job of depicting each character with differing voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely found myself looking for things to do so I could plug in and listen while I worked. Great way to get the house cleaned, laundry done, clothes all folded and put away while enjoying a great

Any additional comments?

Warning, you may find yourself searching for some true stories on polygamous cults after reading this. Audible has several good ones that are real eye openers. Thanks Audible for providing us with such interesting listening.

Good Solid Story

Up until the series hit television I had never heard of Rizzoli & Isles. I enjoyed the show and thought I would give the books a try. I downloaded ICE COLD from Audible for my last trip and I was not disappointed.

Since this was my first one, and it was #8 in the series, I was a little lost with some of the character dynamics, but the author did a well wnough job of getting me up to speed. I found ICE COLD fast-paced and solid There were a few places where the internal narrative of the characters grated a little, but that may have been for personality purposes and probably not just to annoy me.

The story was a lot more interesting than the jacket copy led me to believe and even though it took me a little while to get into it, I truloy enjoyed it. I will be reading more of this series.

One of the reasons I chose this book is because I recently discovered Tanya Eby (Narrator) and am really enthralled with her ability as a reader. This was my second book read by Eby and there will be plenty more.

Nice Surprise

Apart from a small part of the plot at the end that was a little too similar of some current events, I found this story very engaging, original, and very well written. I liked the narrator... not sure what bothered others about her, but I thought she did a very good job. It was suspenseful, and really held my attention. Couldn't wait to get back to it each time! Good suspense novel without being grisly. I would recommend it.

Gerritsen is still going strong

Following the trail of Iles/Rizzoli once again - a slightly different type this time around. Gerritsen keeps you guessing what's around the corner and makes it hard to use the off button on the player. Being a great fan I loved the book, not so much the narrator.

Held my interest

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you like the series you will really like this book.

What did you like best about this story?

That it showed sides of the characters we have not seen much before and that I never really guessed what happened. Tess.' research for this one was superb.

02.5 Overall

The story is promising but never quite gets beyond the promise. I started the book several times before finally listening through to the end on a very cold, snowy weekend.
The narrator was not to blame for my lack of enthusiasm; she was more than adequate.

Tess is the best!!

This book leaves you wanting more and more. I can not wait till "The Killing Place" comes out. I encourage everyone to start at the begining of this series "The Surgeon" so that you can fully appreciate the story. I am soooo glad there will be a T.V. show. I hope it does her books justice.
Keep writing Tess I can't get enough.

Narrator sounded like a robot

Probably one of the worst narrations I've ever heard. The entire time I kept thinking- is this a robot? My GPS system's narration sounds more organic. Good story line but man, this broad should find a new career because audiobook narration is clearly not her forte.
