Publisher's summary

The propulsive, shockingly plausible sequel to New York Times best seller Daemon.

In one of the most buzzed-about debuts, Daniel Suarez introduced a terrifying vision of a new world order, controlled by the Daemon, an insidious computer program unleashed by a hi-tech wunderkind. Daemon captured the attention of the tech community, became a New York Times and Indie best seller, and left listeners hungry for more. Well, more is here, and it's even more gripping than its predecessor.

In the opening chapters of Freedom, the Daemon is firmly in control, using an expanded network of real-world, dispossessed darknet operatives to tear apart civilization and rebuild it anew. Soon civil war breaks out in the American Midwest, in a brutal wave of violence that becomes known as the Corn Rebellion. Former detective Pete Sebeck, now the Daemon's most powerful - though reluctant - operative, must lead a small band of enlightened humans toward a populist movement designed to protect the new world order. But the private armies of global business are preparing to crush the Daemon once and for all.

In a world of conflicted loyalties, rapidly diminishing human power, and the possibility that anyone can be a spy, what's at stake is nothing less than human freedom's last hope to survive the technology revolution.

Critic reviews

"Freedom™ surpasses its smart, exciting predecessor. This concluding volume crackles with electrifying action scenes and bristles with intriguing ideas about a frightening, near-future world. The two books combined form the cyberthriller against which all others will be measured.” (Publishers Weekly [starred review]

“Suarez continues his popular technothriller, and Daemon fans will be well be pleased with the exciting conclusion.” (Booklist)

"An engrossing, fast-paced tale of speculative fiction." (SF Site)

VERY HAPPY this book was done after 'Daemon'

Daemon was one of the best books I've read, both in substance, character development, theory of storyline, among other highlights, but it is simple

Along with 'Kill Decision', Daniel Suarez is 3/3 & is completely 'money' when it comes to writing a book that effects ur thoughts at many different intellectual levels. If u have not read all 3 books, DO IT.... I waited & almost didn't read them but all 3 are among the best books I've read...

Kill Decision is different then the Freedom & Daemon books but the latter 2 are well worth the time & credits, thank god I didn't have to wait for freedom to be written after I read Daemon... Its that good

This actually needs to happen.

Excellent performance by Gurner. The story, both Daemon and Freedom, are superb and so believable, you could argue that it is happening now. I just hope I get recruited to the darknet soon!

Hoping for a 3rd installment

Great sequel. Could’ve been better but I did enjoy it. Seems like it was a little rushed to end the story. I would’ve much rather it went into more depth and ended the story with a third book. Hoping somehow a third book still comes out but the way it ends I’m not sure. One character in the original is not in the sequel so maybe they could touch on his story. Check it out, if u liked the first you’ll definitely like this .

The conclusion to Daemon

If you were unsatisfied with the first book, this will put your mind at ease. A nice conclusion, these two books would make an excellent tv series.

Excellent end to an excellent story

I purchased this book before I was even done with the first. It did not let me down at all. The story is fast paced and nuanced and has some excellent characters.

The end is just the beginning

If you could sum up Freedom (TM) in three words, what would they be?

Mind blowing story, this picks up a time after the first book "Daemon" with a new world order spawning inside the dying corporate owned world like a parasite, you soon realize, you are indeed rooting for what in the first book, you thought were the bad guys, but like any revolution, blood is shed to take a foothold for a new beginning, and its kept teetering like a seesaw at you with you never realizing when that next moment will come and which side will truly prevail in the end, and will there be Freedom for all?

Who was your favorite character and why?

John Ross, a person caught between worlds, to fight against the one he loves, or desperately try to persuade her to join him in the burgeoning new world taking shape as the old world is swept away.

What does Jeff Gurner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Excellent voice over work with great accents and differing character voices

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES, if it weren't for work and family life I could have easily sat in one place listening to the entire storyline.
