Publisher's summary

Sunshine State trivia buff Serge A. Storms loves eliminating jerks and pests. His drug-addled partner Coleman loves cartoons. Hot stripper Sharon Rhodes loves cocaine, especially when purchased with rich dead men's money. On the other hand, there's Sean and David, who love fishing and are kind to animals - and who are about to cross paths with a suitcase filled with $5 million in stolen insurance money. Serge wants the suitcase. Sharon wants the suitcase. Coleman wants more drugs... and the suitcase. In the meantime, there's murder by gun, Space Shuttle, Barbie doll, and Levi's 501s. In other words, welcome to Tim Dorsey's Florida - where nobody gets out unscathed and untanned!

Poor editing of narration

Disjointed. I like Dorsey but this one a little all over the place. Just too many “local references”. I’m
a local for the Gulf Coast setting and familiar with everything & everywhere mentioned. But, the obvious mispronunciation of places & names after a while was so annoyingly ridiculous. Where was the editor or Dorsey’s approval? Narrator sounded AI produced.

Amazing Ride!

I could not describe with any accuracy how much fun this book was. I hope the Author was paid in advance, because with the price of mind altering drugs these days, he might have been homeless by the time he got all this out on paper.

The logistics of keeping this together must have taken a whole house of dry-erase boards and post-it notes. I almost wish I hadn't finished it, because I want to still be reading it. What a perfect escape from reality!

Local Accuracy

Moved around Fl quite a bit and rereading series. Hard to tell the difference between graphic detail, and wholesale Bull-Snot!

Going Back to the Paperbook

My husband is a HUGE Tim Dorsey fan, and I have tried and tried to start this series and thought that maybe the audio version would be easier. Maybe if someone else was narrating it would be different but I just still cannot get into this book. Don't get me wrong there are some funny parts, parts about FL that caused me to "hey! I know where that is" but I got 5 chapters in and just could not listen anymore. But there are so many people who love these books, it is probably just me.

Always a Wild Ride!

What made the experience of listening to Florida Roadkill the most enjoyable?

As a Floridian, it is always fun for me to read stories that give me a glimpse of places I know and have been to. Tim Dorsey's characters not only live here, but Serge Storms is fanatical about Florida's history, the flora and fauna, and every little thing that a Florida insider would learn from growing up here - and then some. It's like a wild and rollicking travelogue that just happens to take place in Florida.

What other book might you compare Florida Roadkill to and why?

The Serge Storms books are a lovely mix of Carl Hiiasen and Jeff Lindsay - unique comedy, lots of action, adventure and a lovable 'serial killer' - although I'm not sure Serge really qualifies as a serial killer.

Which character – as performed by George Wilson – was your favorite?

Serge A. Storms was my favorite, although I liked most of the characters. Mr. Dorsey is able to give you a really good snapshot of his character in a few, well-chosen words. I even liked the unlikeable ones.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

There is SO much going on in this book: the banking and insurance systems, exploitation of senior citizens, the World Series, Florida travel, the cocaine cartels, etc., etc., it would take a lot longer than I have to choose just one tag line.

Any additional comments?

I love the way Mr. Dorsey takes such diverse characters - each with their own story and scenario - and weaves and weaves and brings them all together at the end of the book in such a way that you can't imagine how they might have avoided being caught up in the action. It's really a gift and must require a LOT of work on the author's part.

Second Best Dorsey Book

Where does Florida Roadkill rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

When in the military awaiting for a plane to take us home from a deployment in England I rand across this book in the day room. Took it to my room and started, couldn't put it down. This book, the actual written book, is 100 miles an hour. The audio version, the same writing being told to you, isn't quit the speed for some reason. Don't confuse that with poor or not worthy though. This is a wonderful listen that will have you laughing and wondering. I have now read eight Dorsey books and rate this one number two behind Triggerfish Twist. These Dorsey books are best described as Pulp Fiction style and are certainly worth every penny you will pay to get them.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. The moving from subject to subject is wonderful and keeps you wondering when you will find out what happened at so and so point.

What does George Wilson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Actually, I was a little disappointed in the presentation, but it wasn't terrible. The Oliver Wyman performed Dorsey books are better in this regard.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh your ass off.

Any additional comments?

Listen to it, then get the others.

Overall good but need new narrator and/or producer

Apparently, neither the narrator nor the producer have ever lived in Florida or even spent significant amounts of time in the state. The mispronunciations of many words, particularly various cities in FL is just awful.
