Faster - Grittier - Darker - Deadlier
Former SAS Warrant Officer Joe Gardner has fought the Regiment's deadliest enemies, in some of the most desolate places on earth. And he's always won. Now he's about to face his toughest challenge yet. After losing his hand whilst on a covert operation in Afghanistan, Gardner is forced to stand down from active duty. Now he lives off the grid. But trouble finds him in the shape of a phone call from an old friend. Ex-Regiment legend John Bald is trapped in a bullet-ridden favela in Rio de Janeiro and a violent gang is out to kill him. Unless Gardner helps, Bald is a dead man.
What begins as a simple rescue mission soon descends into a desperate struggle for survival as Gardner finds himself caught up in a conceit that stretches from the slums of Brazil to the frozen steppes of Siberia. Stalked by elusive MI6 agents and ruthless ex-Blades, Gardner must draw on all his training and instincts to hunt down the hardest target of all - before disaster strikes....

This a storyline that is familiar from Chris Ryan. I didn't like the sound effects or dramatic music, it really did nothing to enhance what was really a fairly ordinary story. The punishment Joe Gardiner takes and seem to miraculously keep functioning is a bit of a stretch. Not one of his best, but still worth a listen at the discounted price.
The narrator did a great job on this really bringing it to life.
The firefight in the favela
Curious errors that make you wonder if Ryan actually wrote this.
Referring to a near miss by a bullet as
I could close my eyes and relax, thus taking in the whole experience. It also allowed me to do other things when reqired without loosing the plot.
The easy flow from each story line.ie. mission 1 to 4
Yes, will the story continue, or do we assume that aime dies?
"One to avoid"
To be hones, I like Chris Ryan's books. This book seems to have been written by someone else.
A real shame, but I will not be going back to Chris Ryan for a while
"I liked it"
After reading the reviews I nearly didn't buy the book -- but I like to make my own mind up and have to say I enjoyed it yes ok one or two mmms but a good read thanks
"foolish story of a unbreakable man"
Been a long time since I read such a poor tale.
This man fall 45ft is shot/ choked n gets up n walks away. tripe at its finest.....Ryan is scraping the barrel now
"Farcical and Cringe Worthy"
I can usually suspend my disbelief and enjoy a far-fetched action novel, but Extreme Hard Target stretches credulity way beyond breaking point. Is this really Chris Ryan? The plot is farcical, and the narrative is cringe worthy in a number of places. Having stuck it out to the end I found that either the author ran out of story before the end of the tale, or there is some narrative missing just before you get to the “Audible hopes you…..” finish. Whichever is the case, I’m sure that I’ve not missed anything worth listening to.
"Don't waste your money"
This is by far his worst book. In fact it is the worst book of this type by any of the authors I have read and I usually love this genre. The only extreme thing in this book is how farcical the plot is. Not even worth 1 star.
"Not his usual style"
They say in life you only get what you pay for, I paid £3 for this and it wasn't even worth that. The tacky noises and background music just put you off from the start. It doesn't even sound like its Chris Ryan’s writing style the descriptive commentary is abysmal I stopped listening after half an hour.
"Extreme covers it!"
I don't quite know what I was thinking when I chose this book. It is full of gruesome descriptions of the affects of various calibre weapons and violent fisticuffs. Not my usual fare though I am not sqeamish by any means. This book has a gritty authenticity I can't help but admire. The story is totally gripping and races along carrying you with it relentlessly. Its one of those rare books that stays with you, fizzing in the back of your head. Having read it I really feel I have squinted through a window into the world of secret services, of military and ex-military personnel, of Rusian Mafia and other bad boys, and of "troubled" hotspots in our world. If you want a thought-provoking and engrossing story, this is for you. You have been warned!
"Not the best"
narrative very good, story hard to follow, split into sections not good and a very poor ending. overall not great...
"Stupid sound erects ruined it!"
Stupid sound erects ruined it! There was no need for them, there was plenty of action and suspense in the book.
Why the sound effects.
It's not an xbox game.
Narrator is brilliant
Sound effects not needed
