I'm retired and have time to read or listen to more than 300 books annually. My favorite genre is mystery/thrillers. No paranormal.

"In Exit 9 the suspense continues to build"

Project Eden is a continuing series that can be thought of as a single 60 hour book, so each of the first 6 books end with a lot of uncertainty and unresolved issues. The suspense builds up to a point that very few action thrillers can match. Along with the Jonathan Quinn series Project Eden establishes Brett Battles as one of the best thriller writers ever. Exit 9 is the second book in the series.

McLeod Andrews narrates the Project Eden series and he does his usual great job.

    "What a great sequel!"
What made the experience of listening to Exit 9 the most enjoyable?

I had read and listened to the first book, "Sick" and was spellbound by it and was overwhelmed by "Exit". I liked the story, the reader and the 'edge of your seat' feeling. In fact, I liked it so much I purchased the entire series to read.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I was kept in suspense because all the characters were at some point or another in jeopardy but didn't escape by a quirk. The whole thing worked

What does MacLeod Andrews bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr. Andrews didn't play voices or make light of the reading. He read it in such a way that I felt he actually was there and the story was real. Even though I read the rest of the series, I would eventually like to listen to Mr. Andrews read all the other books.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"Is Project Eden deciding your fate?"

    Any additional comments?

For goodness sakes, listen and read this series. It will knock your socks off!!

    Any additional comments?

Not a five star series, but entertaining. I see some reviewers don't like that some things are not all that realistic. To them I say, this is Fiction. What I tell my wife when it comes to science fiction, just believe it is possible and enjoy the ride. One reader was disappointed that the good guys might win in this series. It's not reality he said. What's up with that? Why can't you have a feel good book? The game of thrones crap only goes so far before you just can't digest the depression anymore. Books and movies are an escape. Feeling good at the end is a good thing. If you want to read about bad guys, then read non fiction. Humans have plenty of bad guys that come out ahead. My only gripe of this book is that the author uses a poor ploy to get you to buy the next book. He likes to end his story from book 2 and on, right in the middle of a cliff hanger. That actually makes me a little miffed, like maybe I should not buy the next one just to show him what's up. But I buy them anyway. Also, Daniel Ash, the supposed hero, is really dumb. He always asks the stupid questions at the wrong time. You can just count on it. I wish there was a better hero to cheer for but what the heck. The stories move along nicely and they are well read. Great for the over the road trucker.

"Argh! Cliffhanger Warning -Not Quite a 4 Star Book"

This is the second in the series, you should read the first book, Sick, before or you'll be lost. Even with that there were times I had to rewind to remember where I was. There are quite a few side stories going on as we come up to ID or Implementation Day. The day Project Eden gives the human race a do-over by killing all but 70 million people on the planet. Kinda scary when you think about it. Of course I started to get a cold in the middle of reading this book. One thing for sure... Make sure you have book 3 before you end this one. It's got one hell of a cliffhanger! I was yelling at my iPhone when it ended I am so frustrated. But I enjoyed the read and I really like this narrator. He does good accents and there are quite few in this book.

"the crazy lady saves the day, sort of"

Excuse me, but the plebes you want to sacrifice for the betterment of mankind object. We don't agree with you that you have the right to kill us all so that you can start over and do a better job.

This is a conspiracy that many have tossed around as being real. It is definitely possible, and there are people out there conceited enough to make something like this happen. The Eden Project has determined that mankind is messed up to point that we need to start over. But you don't get a choice; they decide who gets to live through the impending pandemic they will create.

Daniel Ash is called back to help the Resistance combat The Project. The Resistance must get to Blue Bird, the control center, and thwart the planned Implementation Day. but they don't even know where the control center is! Lots of good guys die to protect other good guys and to search for Blue Bird. Other innocents die along the way too.

There are several side stories with their real little lives and loves. This is what humanity is all about. This is what Blue Bird is so casually planning to wipe out.

The action is a bit predictable, but still exciting, and worth the time. These 2 books are much better than some of Brett Battles' other works, and here we have the pleasure of listening to MacLeod Andrews. His voices are wonderful and his accents spot on. He ranges from the US to Holland, to India, to Australia, to Costa Rica. All done believably.

I had a bit of trouble remembering who was who with the new characters and Ash doesn't come on the scene right off but all in all I liked the book and would recommend it to friends

Well it was entertaining, but I think there are a lot of books in this series and it just seems like its one of those books where the bad guy is always gonna get stopped by the end of tge book . kinda getting bored with the series.

    "The story continues!!!!!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, but only after they read the first one of course.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Exit 9?

When the button was FINALLY pushed, and the person who did it!! I did not see it coming

Have you listened to any of MacLeod Andrews’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Just the first book in this series. It was the same.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    No, not really

    Any additional comments?

The ending was so abrupt that I pulled over on the side of the road and downloaded the next book!! I JUST had to hear what happened next :)

    "Gripping and captivating, excellent narration"

After listening to Sick and being captivated by the Project Eden series I couldn't wait to listen to Exit 9, part 2 of the series. And the second book totally lived up to expectation, a roller coaster that captivated me and kept me wanting more. Brett Battles has really pulled off an excellent gripping series and the Project Eden series is highly recommended.

The narration by Macleod Andrews is as always excellent - great differentiation between characters with his tone of voice and style.
