Publisher's summary

An apocalyptic supernova flashes over the South Pole. A mysterious mission sent deep into the Amazon. The story of one family’s struggle to reunite…

Max Carver, a down-on-his-luck truck driver and Army vet, joins a rescue mission into Brazil. The target is a utopian tech village, the Colony, hidden in the rainforest and run by a charismatic genius. Max’s pregnant wife, Talisha Carver, is the NSA analyst who intercepted encrypted Colony messages signaling a mysterious impending event.

Dr. Xin Rou is a Chinese researcher working at the IceCube neutrino experiment at the South Pole. On lucky days a single flash might signal the passage of a ghostly interstellar particle. Suddenly, IceCube’s entire array lights up. A million detectors at once. Which is impossible. The Antarctic sky is clear and calm—but she is already running for the door.

Because the world is about to end. But the mystery just begins...

Great, too short

Love it but I had no idea that it was 1of3. I should have waited until I had all three. Too much suspense.

Best story by author to-date

I just finished listening to this book. I have most of Matthew's works and this is the first narrated book of his I have. I really enjoyed Ray Porter, but Ray had a great book to read. The plot, the character development, the locations, the dialogue are all top notch. You will enjoy it as the plot is believable. And interestingly, I just spent a week in the Amazon jungle on a mission trip and can totally envision the descriptions that he provided. I can't wait for the sequel to this book.

Great listen

As usual Ray Porter delivers a great performance. I could listen to him read just about anything. I will admit this being my second time listening. This time I finished the book. I really like to tackle whole series but, I am waiting on sequel to another Ray Porter narrated novel. I would pre-order this sequel if I could. The book was better than I remember. No spoilers.

Ray Porter is excellent!

I have just finished re-reading Aeon Rising by Matthew Mather. You may know, Matthew lost his life in automobile accident in Sept 2022. Matthew was kind enough to respond to my messages and based on others, a truly nice person and family man. He left behind, Julie, his wife and 2 young children. His latest book released posthumously, Aeon Burn, is now available. Below is my original review of Aeon Rising and I still believe it's one of the better sci-fi books I've read:

"Aeon Rising: The Apocalypse Begins - this is a must read for Mather fans!
Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2022
I have been a fan of Matthew Mather's writing for several years. All of his books are intense reads that challenge your imagination and your intelligence. There is always a thin line between his fiction and the real possibility that some of the events he writes about 'could' become a reality. Aeon Rising does cross over into more science fiction, but 'what if' keeps the reader connected with the details of the story as it unfolds. I would definitely rate Aeon Rising as some of the authors best writing to date. I will definitely continue reading this new series. For fans of audible books, I highly recommend Ray Porter's excellent performance of Aeon Rising." -Mr.Bill

narrator was great. story was good. science a little lite. if all.power and knights and phones in the world were fried the circuits in ham radios would definitely not work.

Is there more?

I enjoyed Ray Porter’s voice as usual, but it was not his best I think.

Story was interesting but the end gave the feeling that there should be more stories to come. In addition the ending felt rushed - hours were spent on a muddy river beach and then suddenly A LOT of interesting explanations for things appeared, but without being further explored. Worth the time but the action sort of stopped a bit early.

Lost me

Was pretty much ok until the Brazilian colony stuff. Clear wood? Inflated drones? Buildings part of trees? What the heck?…
