I loved this one. The narrator was also good and suited the story. Unlike some of the narrators of the previous books in the reacher series he had a good deep voice which suited the main character but had the knack of being able to convey the impression of female character voice without the character sounding like a drag queen.
The story is great plenty of action as usual for a jack reacher book, but the story is much more engaging with more psychological twists.
This is my new favourite Jack Reacher book.
The story was complex - you were never sure whether Jack Reacher had been conned. I also love listening to Jeff Harding.
I wouldn't compare it to other Lee Child books, but I am a big fan. Every couple of years I listen to them all again.
His style is perfect for thrillers.
I look for books with ideas on multiple levels, a good story, and a bit of fun.
Jack Reacher stories are amphetamine in writing. A friend 'pushed' me into them last Christmas - the first 2 consumed every spare moment from my week's holiday, and a good many more moments than they should have. At the time I thought luckily there were no Audible versions.
Now there are! Initially I didn't like listening to this first one I experienced. Jeff Harding has the right voice for the genre, but his women's voices sound like little girls. It took me a long time to latch into the story.
However eventually I did, and I enjoyed it. Jack Reacher is the 21st-century Odysseus, and like all good myths, this one resonates on multiple levels. In addition 'Echo Burning' builds the tension slowly, and eventually it hits a point of pushing more adrenaline than ice climbing. It kept me coming back for more. I suspect that it will for all who like reading of an interesting hero sorting through interesting problems.
Reacher is becoming an addiction. Tense and thrilling, I was almost feeling sorry for those characters that chose to mess with the 'special investigator'.
"Electric atmosphere helps build the tension"
The narrator made this a better story than it really was, a convincing accent help create a sense of being in Texas.
Not my favourite but still enjoyed the thriller and left me wanting to hear more
The scene when they were all sat around the table at the Red ranch prior to it burning down
The story about the mexicans being hunted like wild animals when crossing the border
This is the 3rd Jack Reacher audiobook I've listen to and found this narrator to be the best.
The truly awful thing about this book is that it's very likely based on fact. Which reminds one that no amount of legislation will ever conquer entrenched prejudice and bigotry.
All the gods be thanked for men like Reacher!
Or should I say? - writers like Lee Child.
"Predictable but Enjoyable Nevertheless!"
I love the Jack Reacher character and in this Texan adventure you get a real sense of the environment and resident prejudice as the plot enfolds with its twists and turns.
"What's not to like?"
I am late to Lee Child and the Jack Reacher series, if you are too you will love these books. Interesting exciting stuff. Just glad there are loads of new ones to get to.
"another great Reacher story"
Jeff Harding is a brilliant narrator of this books, excellent story recommended
everything, got sucked in and couldnt put it down
The voice of Jeff Harding sounds like the voice of Jack Reacher
"Good but not the best story"
much better than the narrator of the previous book.
had random parts where music played in the background for no reason
"One of my favourite Reacher stories."
I love all of the reacher stories but this is one of my particular favourites.
Think I might
I find Lee Childshard work to read, but having it told made it easier and the story's good
No I haven't.
No, I 'read' it every night at bed time. Great end to the day.
Thoroughly recommend this way of reading books
"'Reacher said nothing'"
Funny wild west story. So far the most realistic of the books if read in order. Narrator much better too and seems to do all the rest as far as I can see. :)
