Critic reviews

"Johnson combines a vivid sense of the dailiness of life--and the way human relationships take root in that dailiness--with a sure--handed touch for jolting both his characters and his readers out of their comfort zones and deep into harm's way. It's hard to ask for more in a literary mystery." ( Booklist)

Longmire Is Growing On Me

Admittedly, I was a little tough on the first Longmire novel in the series. Being a fan of the TV show, I found the departure from the characters with the same name a little unnerving. For the second time around, I left my preconceived notions behind and listened to the story for what it is. I am pleased I did. George Guidall's narration is really growing on me. I have to admit laughing out loud at some the deadpan delivery of Craig Johnson's wonderful prose. This is not really a review of the specific story, but more of how much of a joy it is to listen too. One reviewer commented that listening to the series was pure pleasure and not to be rushed. That is exactly on point. After listening to three other novels in between, I am ready to delve into Longmire #3. If you have not started on this one, do yourself a treat, and begin. You will not be disappointed.

I'm enjoying this series and look forward to the next one. Craig Johnson's humour and Longmire's laconic attitude make for easy listening. His vivid descriptions of the environment and colourful support characters do not detract from the severity or brutality of the crimes or the mystery surrounding them. George Guidall is the perfect choice for narrator and his talent brings the characters to life. This series are in the top tier of my library.

Great combination of author and narrator

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. The voice matched the story and the characters perfectly. The pacing was great. The story was very entertaining and there were some good twists and turns, along with action scenes. I'm looking forward to more in this series.

George Guidall is Great!

Really enjoying this series...too bad it took me so long to find them. George Guidall is Great! I don't think that I would have enjoyed this series as much if I had read the written word as opposed to listening. Mr. Guidall nails each character for me. Thanks!

Addiction

Losing so much sleep!!!! I just finished this second book in the Walt Longmire series and it's costing me a lot of sleep. Addicted...can't stop listening. The story line is so tight. I never have thoughts like, "Wait, that doesn't add up!", or "No, too unbelievable." Solid, beautiful writing. I am so hooked. And the narration....WHOA!!! Does NOT get any better. Perfectly flows and distinguishes each character. Interestingly, I had already watched the series on Netflix so I wasn't sure the books would be as enjoyable after that. But not the case at all. Icing on the cake... it's quarantine time so I am walking miles everyday so I can keep listening. Moving on to book number three!!!

An addictive series

It took me awhile to warm up to this series, but by book 2 I’m officially hooked. The only fault I can find with it is the author’s lack of understanding the natural gas business. Natural gas is methane, but nobody calls it that. Also, while owning mineral rights can make someone rich the royalty paid to the owners is a fraction of the total income produced and usually shared among several different owners. The story is first rate and Craig Johnson’s characters are intricate creations. I’ve recommended this series to several people.
