Publisher's summary

Tony Valentine is an expert at spotting cheats. He's tossed them out of gambling casinos from Atlantic City to Monaco. But though Tony has never met a scam he couldn't crack, his son and partner, Gerry, has just walked into one with a body count. What started as a conman's deathbed confession turns into a deadly Las Vegas grudge match during the world's biggest poker tournament. While Gerry tangles with the Vegas mob, Tony enlists the aid of an aging grifter to save the tournament, and stop a blind player who's out to heist it.

Fantastic insiders look at Vegas gambling!

Retired cop Tony Vanlentine is back once again, using his expertise of casino gambling and cheating. But he is the good guy, he is called to Vegas to look into allegations that some cheating may be happening in The World Poker Showdown. Valentine encounters some of the more interesting characters to ever cross his path during his career. There is intrigue, danger and of course a scam must be uncovered. Tony Valentine is a wise man, using his vast experience at catching cheaters, as well as a dollop of plain old common sense. You get humour, good detective work and best of all-a look inside the world of casino gambling; which is not always pretty. I have read every one of Swains books and have never been less that greatly entertained. Throw this into your cart, and learn some interesting things about Vegas gambling. You will also see the love Valentine has for his son, who has a habit of getting into sticky situations, yet Valentine stands by his offspring. I listened to Dead Man's Poker in two days at work. But during those two days a lot of paperwork piled up, but hearing a great story makes getting behind at work well worth it. ENJOY.

Should be labeled Part One

Engaging story, but the author/editor made no effort to complete the story in this book. I assumed there must be a piece missing from my download, but it turns out that one has to buy another book to find out how this mystery is resolved. You'll probably be happier if you purchase it with this understanding.

Great listen!

Story was great. The narrator was outstanding! loved it cover to cover but the ending was a lil anticlimactic. Hence only 4 stars for the story. It came very abruptly and left a lot to the story unfinished.

Horrible ending

The story never gets finished. If you like a complete story I wouldn’t recommend this book.

Not even an outstanding narrator can make up for trash

The writing is awkward and at times juvenile. The plot, such as it is, is contrived and full of holes, like it had been shot many times by the 38 magnum revolver mentioned in the book.
