Publisher's summary

Strange days....
Winter gripped the city. Terror gripped it, too. They found four corpses in four days, each more hideous than the last.

Strange nights....
At first the cops thought they were dealing with a psychopath. But soon they heard eerie sounds in the ventilation system - and saw unearthly silver eyes in the snow-slashed night.

Final hours....
In a city paralyzed by a blizzard, something watches, something stalks.

a DEVILISH thrill ride......4 STARS~~~~

PLOT: Voodoo power scares up some goblins to come after a good guy. Thrills galore.

Jack has two small children that become the "target" of a Voodoo Master who summons the power of Evil and opens the gates of hell. Horrific yes. .....Jack is a policeman and widower. He becomes romantically linked to his partner Rebecca. When a Voodoo Curse gives the power to sick "evil goblins" like creatures to kill his children Jack must find a way to stop the evil. I was not a big horror fan til this book. The "goblins' are detailed and the chase to get the children is spelled out in a very scary way to keep you on the edge of your seat. Just when you think someone is safe they return. This starts slow and the last half of the book is super exciting. Koontz is the master of details and he has you guessing all the way. the READER is excellent and can do many accents that needed to keep the story moving along. ONE of the BEST of the early Koontz stories. I liked it. GREAT 4 STAR audiobook.

Love the Koontz!

Very good Koontz. I was easily sucked in and surprised by how I couldn't wait to get back to hear more. Some people bashed it but it's definitely worth a credit.

Good story, but the language used...

I understand that in the art of storytelling, however outside of the racial slurs used-which i understand and accept as they were character drive-so.e of the descriptors used relied heavily on exaggerating the fact that certain characters were black, i.e. "the black man" when this had no need to be expressed as we were introduced to this man earlier and fairly frequently in the story. I finished the book and liked the story but some of the tone almost had me walk away several times. The performer did a great job.

A bit dated, but a good story.

This book was originally published in 1984, so it's not up to date with cell phones, etc., but it is a good story. Ending was a bit abrupt, but an epilogue really wasn't really necessary. Would recommend.

Awesome

This was an excellent audio book.
Christopher Lance is now my official favorite reader.

His voice acting and special 'sound effects' (like when a character is speaking on the phone) makes the book even better.

Great story. Always a great author.
Get this audio book if you're on the fence.

Excellent as always, exceptional narration.

Typically superb Koontz, made all the more enjoyable by Christopher Lane's narrative performance. This is why I prefer to listen to the Audible versions, even when I've previously read the book. I would have liked an epilogue, however. Sometimes Koontz leaves me feeling that there was just a wee bit more that could be said so that I could achieve the satisfaction of feeling all the dangling ends have neatly tied when I close the book. The implication is there, but I like it spelled out. The "happy ending" at the conclusion of a terrifying story.

A good read

OUTSTANDING narration by Christopher Lane. His ability to nuance different character voices, and accents was phenomenal. Also, great job by the recording crew, who made a phonecall sound like an actual phone call. This was a well done Audio book, I wish they all could be so well produced.
