Publisher's summary

You can pick your friends, they say, but you can't pick your family. And lately, Mike Daley's family has been keeping him very busy. An ex-priest, ex-public defender, and ex-corporate lawyer, Daley and his former wife, Rosie Fernandez, now run their own San Francisco criminal defense firm. Most of their cases are fairly small-time, which is why it would be surprising that the person accused of murdering movie director Richard (Big Dick) MacArthur is calling them - except that the accused is Rosie's own niece, Angelina. That case is bad enough, but the family problems don't end there: Rosie's brother, Tony, may be on the wrong end of a strong-arm graft proposal; the son of one of the firm's lawyers has just been busted on a drug charge; Mike is having a clandestine affair with a woman judge... and Rosie herself has a dark secret that may make all of it seem irrelevant.

An intricate plot, immensely likeable characters, powerful suspense, and more than a touch of humor-these have already become Siegel's hallmarks. Criminal Intent will keep you turning pages until its final, surprising end.

Narrator so awful, I had to return it.

I love the series and this book promised to be another good story, but I could not listen to this narrator a minute longer. I will need to finish the story by reading a hard copy. On to book 4, with a different narrator. I’m hoping they learned from this experience.

Loved the story

The story flowed well and though I was skeptical of the multiple storylines at first, it followed through easily. I loved Michael and Rosita!

Different narrator please

I’m not sure I can finish this. I’ve put it on 1.25 speed - that helps a bit. The narrator is slow, whiny, and his attempt at different voices is ludicrous. I’m usually fairly forgiving but this might be too much.

Loved the story, hated the narration. Would not recommend the audio version. Would recommend the book

Okay story

I enjoyed the first 2 books more, but this was still okay. I think my biggest issue was this book had a different narrator who couldn't do basic accents - the Hispanic gentleman sounded more Irish than the Irish bartender. The original narrator, same for the first two books, is outstanding!

Incomprehensibly Bad Narration and Production

The narration of this book is unbelievably bad. I mean downright awful. Who signed off on this? Horrible production on top of brutal narration.

First off, learn how to pronounce city and county names in Northern California. Second, stop trying to use English aristocratic voices for critics or anyone with money. Third, bad actors do not improve with voice narration. Until this book, I’ve never experienced overacting in an audiobook.

The story is OK, but the narration and production ruin it. If I was Siegel, I’d be wondering who my agent offended at the publisher’s office. This screams retaliatory practices.

Poor quality recording of a decent story

The story was decent as was the performance, but there were many distracting sounds in the background throughout the recording. Frequently sounded like doors closing or objects dropping-- at times enough so that it pulled me out of the story and reminded me I was sitting in traffic.

Could have been better

The narration was awful! It really was hard hard to listen when the reading mispronounced words and the affect was flat. The story was ok, but not engaging!
