Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Karin Slaughter, author of the bestselling Will Trent novels, is widely acclaimed as “one of the best crime novelists in America” (The Washington Post). Now she delivers her first stand-alone novel: an epic story of a city in the midst of seismic upheaval, a serial killer targeting cops, and a divided police force tasked with bringing a madman to justice.

Atlanta, 1974. It’s Kate Murphy’s first day on the job, and the Atlanta Police Department is seething after the murder of an officer. Before the day has barely begun, she already suspects she’s not cut out to be a cop. Her male uniform is too big, she can’t handle a gun, and she’s rapidly learning that the APD is hardly a place that welcomes women. Worse still, in the ensuing manhunt, she’ll be partnered with Maggie Lawson, a cop with her own ax to grind (and a brother and uncle already on the force)—a strategy meant to isolate Kate and Maggie from the action. But the move will backfire, putting them right at the heart of it.

Cop Town is an incredibly atmospheric nail-biter from the author the Huffington Post called an “exemplary storyteller” and “one of the great talents of the twenty-first century.”

Not a bad book but not super exciting either! The ending crept up very quickly and I was like.... Oh okay it's over, little disappointed.

Love this author

This is a great book but a great author narrated by a great narrator! I’ve listened to all Karin Slaughter’s books, sadly just got to this one.
Not disappointed

Another great thriller from Karin Slaughter!

I enjoyed this thriller set in 1970s Atlanta. A cop killer is on the loose, and the police force is desperate to catch him. Meanwhile, Kate Murphy is trying to survive her first week on the police force. As an Atlanta resident, I always enjoy Slaughter’s novels (even if Will Trent isn’t in them). I’ll admit, the sexist, racist, homophobic, anti-Semitism was hard to listen to, but Slaughter brought it all together at the end.

Dated

This depicts all cops as racist sexist thugs. Kinda sad as the story was better than that. The narrator had the worst southern accent. If you can get by the stereotypes, it was ok.

A painful read

If you were a woman of any color in the work force in the 70’s you’ll recognize the kind of crap we had to put up with on a regular basis. This is a painful reminder of that era. Good story but with a side of anguish.

Just need to comment

I'm listening to Cop Town. The author and the narrator did a wonderfull jobin chapter 15 detailing how Kate felt after her first day as a cop. I lol several times and I was listening at 1am and Kate made me feel exhausted. I'll do an update when I finish the audio
