RITA Award Winner, Romantic Suspense, 2015

The incomparable J. D. Robb presents the latest moving and suspenseful novel in the number-one New York Times best-selling Eve Dallas series.

In a decrepit and long-empty New York building, a man begins the demolition process by swinging a sledgehammer into a wall. When the dust clears, he finds two skeletons wrapped in plastic behind it. The man is Lieutenant Eve Dallas’s billionaire husband, Roarke, and he summons her immediately. His latest real estate project is going to be on hold for a while, because by the time Eve and her crew are finished searching the premises, there are 12 murders to be solved.

After a little digging reveals that the place housed a makeshift shelter for troubled and homeless teenagers back in the mid-2040s, Eve tracks down the people who worked there. Between their recollections and the brilliant work of the force’s new forensic anthropologist, Eve begins to put names and faces to the skeletal remains. They are all girls. A tattooed tough teenager who dealt in illegal drugs. The runaway daughter of a pair of well-to-do doctors. They all had their stories. And they all lost their chance for a better life.

Everyone has something to hide. And when Eve discovers a stunning connection between the victims and someone she knows, she is even more driven to reveal the secrets of the place that was called The Sanctuary - and to find the evil concealed in one human heart.

A laugh A Minute

Love the humor along with the humanism. Second time reading was as good as the first and I laughed just as much. The humor balances the impact of death.

A COLD CASE

Have you ever watched Criminal Minds episode Damaged that's what this kind of reminded me of. Only little parts that didn't stop my enjoyment of the book but just little flashbacks.

I've been calling this a cold case which isn't true just because it took 15 years to find the bodies. But in those years 12 girls where hidden behind a fake wall and secrets where kept. That was until Roarke purchased the building and hit one of the walls as a celebration thing. Now Eve has to get people to remember 15 years ago when the building was a known as Sanctuary home for the orphaned or abused children.

Character wise the ones who owned Sanctuary where okay though they were preachy. They are siblings who named after states. The killer is one of those child inside a kid. Which made it sad.

We meet a new character that both Eve and I don't know how to feel about. Also we get Mavis backstory which hurt and sweet.

Another wonderful book by J D Robb!

We love the entire "in death" series! It's the only books we make sure to purchase as soon as they are on the market!

Another good book in the Eve Dallas Death Series

Would you listen to Concealed in Death again? Why?

I wouldn't consider this book to be one that you would want to listen to multiple times. Don't get me wrong it was a good book. There seemed to be some threads that were not followed through on.

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Susan Ericksen is the best narrator/performer that I have ever heard. She is incredible with each character. I can't imagine anyone else that could read this series. Susan makes this series better.

Predictable?

Am I getting smarter? No, I seriously doubt it. yet I knew almost from the beginning that the younger brother was the one that did The killing. and I knew he wasn't going to be the one in Africa. I did think he was probably dead that he and the older brother probably got into a physical fighting it he accidentally killed him. so that was a nice twist I wasn't expecting. don't get me wrong I love Nora Roberts books! I don't care what she writes names she writes under. I am beginning to wonder after this one about her beliefs. then I remind myself she's not the characters in her books. anyways still a really good book I thoroughly enjoyed it. and looking forward to another one. I just got to figure out which one is next. about 6 months ago I decided to read them all from beginning to end in order. One good advantage to growing old, besides being on the green side of the grave, is I no longer remembering the storyline and books I've already read. When I was in my thirties I would have remembered everything and I couldn't have enjoyed them a second time. . this one is definitely worth reading.

Great Lead Up....

Great case but disappointing ending. Not my favorite in the series but still good. The growth that Eve is showing is great and welcomed. Very pensive in this book, nostalgic really.
