Publisher's summary

When the skeleton of a young girl, not yet a teenager, is discovered in Acadia, Canada, Tempe Brennan is reminded of Evangelina, her best friend in her preteen years, who was mysteriously taken away when she was 12. Evangelina was from strange and faraway Acadia. She was named after Evangeline in the Longfellow poem, and loved poetry. Tempe found her exotic and glamorous, and then, suddenly, she was gone, and Tempe was told not to try to find her, that she was "dangerous".

Though Tempe tries to be rational, she is flooded by memories of her best friend, and wonders whether this skeleton, clearly of a girl who's been dead for decades, could possibly be Evangelina's. At the same time, Tempe's love interest, Ryan, is investigating the deaths of two young girls and the disappearance of another three. Are the cases related? Tempe uses the most recent advances in forensic linguistics to identify the old skeleton, while Ryan investigates the possibility of some kind of serial predator at work now.

Flesh and bone: investigate more of Tempe Brennan's forensic cases.

Critic reviews

"With her usual blend of cutting-edge forensic science, nail-biting suspense and characters that pop off the page, Reichs, who's vice president of the American Academy of Forensic Scientists and the producer of Fox's Bones, has produced another winner in one of the genre's most satisfying series." Very entertaining

I don't usually write reviews but I had to throw in my two cents worth on Kathy Reichs. It seems like so many people that write reviews of her books parrot the phrases "Too Technical" or "Boring". It's the "Technical" stuff that makes her books so interesting. They are anything BUT boring. If technical isn't your thing listen to something else. I find Kathy Reichs very entertaining.

Great story, very creative.

If you could sum up Bones to Ashes in three words, what would they be?

Smart, emotional and well done. I know Kathy draws off personal experiences and that is why truth is stranger than fiction and thankfully she gives us both. Always keeps you thinking.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Bones to Ashes?

The emotional ending. Yes, I cried again. I found myself excited to find time to listen. I love that!

Which character – as performed by Linda Emond – was your favorite?

Tempe. She did great.

Any additional comments?

Good narration and a great book - what can be better?

Kathy all the way

If you like Kathy's books, then you will love this one. A little more emotional than most of her books, this one deals with a lost childhood friend. Very good story and the usual outstanding story development.

Temperance rides again

For those of us that loveTemperance Brennan, Kathy Reichts delivers once again. Her characters are well developed with intrigue and simmering plot woven throughout. The reader is kept guessing as to what has happened to her friend but the story has plenty of other twists and turns.

It was okay

I think this is the last of hers I’ll try. I just tune out after a while. Boring, convoluted storyline with too many characters. I feel like half of the book is here over explaining things or translating languages…filler text. I’ve grown tired of Brennan’s character too. I did like learning some of her history.

Too technical and boring..

I bought this book as it was one of the top 10 downloads. Was throughly disappointed. The story is too uninteresting and technical, it takes all your will not to switch off player.

With difficulty I have reached midway and still does not have anything exciting to offer...

The narration is very monotonous and boring.
Bottomline:money wasted.

Disappointing

I have enjoyed Kathy Reichs' books in the past, but this was way too technical, very boring, and it never seemed to produce the expected and desired excitement. There were too many loose ends and when the mystery was solved I didn't care anymore.

Not her best

It seems that the story drags on and on without reaching any real conclusions. Too technical - needs more explanation of the tech terms used. Found it boring in places. Hope the next one is better.

Boring and then some

I've been downloading books for six years and this is the second worst I've listened to. French accents and indepth medical technical terms was a bit overwhelming. The story is weak and the characters even weaker. The author attempts to pull it all together at the end but fails miserably. Save your money!
