In a nursing home on the outskirts of Cork, an elderly nun lies dead. She has been suffocated. It looks like a mercy killing - until another sister from the same convent is found viciously murdered, floating in the Glashaboy river.
Why would anyone want to kill them? As she investigates, DS Katie Maguire discovers a 50-year-old secret that just might lead her to the killer...if the killer doesn't find her first.

"They will pay for their sins"
Katie Maguire is running into more interference from her office and her sexual ambivalence seems to take a new turn and adds to her problems, meanwhile nuns are being murder in the most horrendous ways, or should I say in the most religious ways.
The investigation takes her into the recent religious past of her country and the bodies begin to accumulate, spatially those of children under the care of the church.
A good story that resolves some of the previous history and opens some new questions, some terribly gruesome murders are committed to nuns and some terrible crimes are remembered.
Overall a good read that could do with a toning down on the torture fest.
"BLOOD SISTERS - Bloody Marvellous..."
Yes - it grabbed me from the very first chapter
The hidden cupboard...
Katie - very believable
My fifth Katie McGuire listen... And my favourite; superbly narrated - I don't understand how anyone could criticise Noreen Leighton!
Gritty, grissly - the genius invention of Mr Masterton...
My only disappointment - it came to an end.
Superb - but not for the faint hearted!
"She would never be at work just at funerals"
How this woman ever became a super, no one would work with her she's a death waiting to happen good story but so unbelievable
"enjoyed the irishness and the slant on the Church
the fourth I have heard. Masterson must be popular. gory but some great images. of nuns, flying etc. good narrator.
"Returned due to horrible violence"
I have had to return this book, shame because the story could have been really good. I just can't understand why any writer would want to write such appalling things...torture at its worst. I will never read another book by this author.
really enjoyed this - gripped from the start and a surprise ending which kept you guessing.
I used to read Graham Masterton as a teenager in the 90s and came across this title in a recent sale. Couldn't leave it alone even at work! I'm a bit off police series at the moment but the characters are very sympathetic and likeable and I'll certainly be looking out for the other Katie McGuire stories. I hope they're read by the same narrator as she has the perfect soft Irish accent for the main character and did a good range of voices for the rest. If you're squeamish you may want to skip certain parts, skipping to the end of the chapter in the unpleasant bits won't affect the rest of the story and the next chapter will continue elsewhere in the story so you won't be shocked by what you skip to.
"Mystery and suspense that’s gripping & intriguing."
Having loved all the other Katie Maguire books I was really looking forward to listening to this one and was not disappointed. I see some people have passed comments on the narration. At first I admit I too wasn’t sure about Noreen Leighton’s narration, so I went back and listened to some of the previous Katie Maguire books. Having done that, I concluded the narration was pretty good. I can’t comment on the quality of the Irish accents but the narration was more than acceptable for me. You don’t need to have listened to any of the previous Katie Maguire books as any links to previous books are covered. Once again, it’s a gripping thriller though certainly not for the faint hearted, as the crimes are rather graphic. Katie is gutsy Irish Detective Superintendent, with a personal life which is always quite interesting and sometimes as graphic as the murders that she investigates. If you are easily offended then this is probably not for you, but if you have listened to any of the other Katie books you will no what to expect, it doesn’t disappoint, another great story that will certainly keep you wondering what will happen next. Loved it.
really enjoyed the book after other books by author. Plots seemed over complicated at times
This is a continuing story which holds ones attention throughout. Great story line.
All the previous Katie McGuire books before this one. One should read them in order to understand the background
Obviously the main Character of Katie. The reading by Noreen was superb. She gave each character an individual 'life' and one knew which one through the story. Wonderful reading.
I would have loved to but 16 hours would be too long at one sitting!
Great story and hope others come along in time.
