A decade postmilitary, Jack Reacher has an ATM card and the clothes on his back—no phone, no ties, and no address. But now a woman from his old unit has done the impossible. From Chicago, Frances Neagley finds Reacher using a signal only the eight members of their elite team of army investigators would know. She tells him a terrifying story about the brutal death of a man they both served with. Soon Reacher is reuniting with the survivors of his old team, scrambling to raise the living, bury the dead, and connect the dots in a mystery that is growing darker by the day.

In a world of bad luck and trouble, when someone targets Jack Reacher and his team, they'd better be ready for what comes right back at them.

Great read. Will get more Jack Reacher novels.

Great narrator. Effective use of voice changing for the various characters. Story had a tight/tense ending.

Great Story and Great Narration

Loved it as always. Definitely recommend to all Jack Reacher fans or fans of action mysteries. Narrator did a great job with all the different characters as well.

Really liked the story

I enjoyed the story up to the time when they make silly statements that are false altogether. A helicopter will autorotate safely to the ground (provided the pilot is competent and there are no other issues other than the engine quitting-regardless of why it quit) easier from a higher altitude than a lower one. Glide to drop ratio is about 1:3 (1 forward and 3 down), you have to keep rotor RPM up and for your best chance higher is better (gives you more time to make radio calls and select a suitable area for your landing site). Otherwise great story.

Good - But Very Familiar

I like Lee Child's books, and Dick Hill delivers 1st narration; but the books are beginning to seem formulaic. I was excited with the prospect that Lee Child was about to introduce an ensemble cast of characters to mix things up a bit; but it didn't really happen. Jack Reacher is a strong character who has a rigidly designed personality. So, the books are similar to a Sherlock Holmes mystery in that the main character is exactly the same inside a new story. Therefore, it is very important that the stories not be the same.

Reacher stands tough

Would you listen to Bad Luck and Trouble again? Why?

I think I may listen to this again as this was my first Reacher book and I like the way Lee child writes this character. Reacher is very skilled at what he does and what he knows and I will be giving the whole series a listen to.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I think the ending could have been more force full but really it it didn't have to be.

Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?

Reacher, even tho all the others were done masterfully by Dick Hill. Reacher was a very good one.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No, not in this one. If I had to say anything it would be it was refreshing to see the main character be poor and not some high tech person with money. They show you he has know money but what he does have is a skill to help people he loves or cares about.

Any additional comments?

Reacher is worth your time as both Dick Hill gives him life and Lee Child gives him depth and a sense this is not just the same old tough guy story line but rather a nice change to a tough guy story line.

One of My Favorites of the 25 I’ve Read so Far

This was one of the best of the 25 Reacher books I’ve read. Suspenseful, high stakes, and a great story.
