Nominated, Gumshoe Award, 2008

A decade postmilitary, Jack Reacher has an ATM card and the clothes on his back—no phone, no ties, and no address. But now a woman from his old unit has done the impossible. From Chicago, Frances Neagley finds Reacher using a signal only the eight members of their elite team of army investigators would know. She tells him a terrifying story about the brutal death of a man they both served with. Soon Reacher is reuniting with the survivors of his old team, scrambling to raise the living, bury the dead, and connect the dots in a mystery that is growing darker by the day.

In a world of bad luck and trouble, when someone targets Jack Reacher and his team, they'd better be ready for what comes right back at them.

A fun Reacher Novel

Watched the TV version in Prime - thought it was too far out of control. Got the book and totally enjoyed the story. I’m not a fan of the reader - Dick Hill. His voice fades out and he drops lines especially for female characters.

Bad Luck and Trouble

Bad Luck and Trouble sheds a lot of light on Reacher and what drives him. Sometimes he seems almost a two dimensional entity without any clear motivation other than violence, and then you see the almost Taoist clarity with which he sees the world. If there were a grim reaper, Reacher could be his avatar on earth. He takes the admonition "do the right thing" from his mother (Enemy), and does it. The eye for an eye nature of his balancing the books for his brutally murdered comrades is justice at it's simplist. If he were to have a tatoo, it would say "Let God sort it out later", to paraphrase R. Lee Ermey. Great Book!

Passable novel

This engagement has minor plot holes that never really get adequately filled. Lee Child starts what seems to be his personal ranting in this novel, here his targets are Alaska airlines and Christian flyers( pun intended to those that have read it). Nice to have the characters from Reacher’s past but they are not as fully developed as one would wish, they are lacking but it was nice to have them in there. As I said an overall possible novel but not by any means his best effort.

Bad Luck & Trouble

The author doesn't paint the word pictures that I have come to appreciate from books I have read in the past but with a little imagination, possibly from past experience, my (your) mind will fill in the blanks. The story line is a good one and an entertaining one. In spite of my misgivings, I found myself enjoying the traffic clogged trips to work each day listening to the story as it played out.

Bad Luck and Trouble

Any additional comments?

WOW I've read Coben and Koonz and loved him, so someone suggested me to have a shot with Lee Child. And he disappoint. Military code and the reference to their codes adds a superb touch to the noval.

Dick Hill was amazing too, I think no other narrator can do a better job than him on the same book, and I'm picky to the extreme with narrators. I can't wait to read more of Child's books! And I hope audible could get us more of his books in the future too.
