Publisher's summary

When Joe Ledger and Echo Team rescue a group of American college kids held hostage in Iran, the Iranian government then asks them to help find six nuclear bombs planted in the Mideast oil fields. These stolen WMDs will lead Joe and Echo Team into hidden vaults of forbidden knowledge, mass-murder, betrayal, and a brotherhood of genetically-engineered killers with a thirst for blood.

Accompanied by the beautiful assassin called Violin, Joe follows a series of clues to find the Book of Shadows, which contains a horrifying truth that threatens to shatter his entire worldview. They say the truth will set you free… Not this time. The secrets of the Assassin’s Code will set the world ablaze.

Awesome Awesome Awesome1

All I can say is, this is a great 4th installment and I hope this is not the end of the Joe Ledger series. He's too interesting a character to come to an end. As for the narrator, Ray Porter was outstanding as usual. I will be looking for other books narrated by him and of course more books by Jonathan Maberry.

Ummm Another awesome Legder story!

This book has a lot of info to understand, Maberry creates a great story arc and Ray Porter narrates wonderfully once again!
More serious and less humor than the other books.

Another exceptional book

I happened upon this author by chance; while reading a review for a different author the reviewer made a statement "if you want a great zombie book then put down this one and go straight to Jonathan Mayberry." So I did and I have to say that reading a series with hardcore mixed military kick ass soldiers battle zombies and dragons and bioterrorism and vampires and cockroach soldiers while navigating espionage is pretty good but mix in that Joe Ledger humor and hot damn these books are addictive.

Awesome Series, Characters and Fight Scenes!

Would you listen to Assassin's Code again? Why?

Yes. The story had several villains with complex motivations. I'm sure that if I listened again, I would discover something new. Plus....you gotta love Joe's wisecracks!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I'm a sucker for Joe Ledger. His character is a tough SOB with many, many human flaws. At the end of the day, he follows his moral code.... if that means a few bad guys don't get a fair shake...I can live with that. LOL!

Which character – as performed by Ray Porter – was your favorite?

I'd have to say Top. Ray Porter is a freakin' genius when it comes to voices. Whether he's voicing a black man (Top) or a California Surfer a Dude (Bunny), his dialect is always amazing!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The last major battle to disarm the nukes. The amount of damage that Joe and his team endure on every mission has honesty given me even MORE respect for our Military officers. I've known guys who returned home from war damaged..... and went RIGHT back when they were called. I can NOT imagine the toll that this must take on our guys (and gals), but this series is making me think about it more. I love our Military Forces. Those Men and Women are true Angels on Earth.

Any additional comments?

This is fast becoming one of my favorite series. If you're thinking about trying this book, give it a try. Every book in this series is awesome.

A good listen

What did you love best about Assassin's Code?

Performance by Ray Porter

Who was your favorite character and why?

Violin - had a depth, charm, and history that made her very interesting.

What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Animation, vivid character distinction

Any additional comments?

Typical Joe Ledger book, lots of action, adventure, and mis-direction.

Mindless military action and vampire slaying

In this fourth installment of Joe Ledger's story, Ledger kicks the @$$ of evil Iranians, a Romanian? weirdo cult, and a group of religious doomsday vampires...all while trying to figure out where the mysterious group of psychotic women fit in to this mess. This book is brainless military sci-fi/horror action at its best. I only gave the book three stars because I started to get bored of all the bad @$$ military action. And it waxed a little too political for me at times. This is also a book that you shouldn't think too deeply about--for instance, why the heck did he bring his DOG for a mission in Iran (when clearly the dog wasn't being used for the mission)? Certainly, the dog HAPPENED to come in handy at times, but it seems poor planning to bring a dog and then leave him pointlessly in the hotel during the mission, so that if things didn't go as smoothly as planned, Ledger would have to go back and get his dog before getting out of harm's way. I also felt some of the "intrigue" plot was rather overcooked. Really? Intrigue in the Catholic Church? Gasp! Never seen THAT in a book before! So, like I said, this book is great if you're interested in some mindless action...just don't think too much.

If you liked the rest of the Joe Ledger books, then this is more of the same. If you liked the first and felt "meh" about the rest, then this book is similar to the rest of the sequels. If you haven't read any of the others, pick up Patient Zero (it's good!) and then keep in mind that the rest of the books are less intelligent, but just as much pulpy action.

I think Porter did an excellent job of capturing the emotion (mostly anger and fiery annoyance) of Ledger while reading this book. I enjoyed the narration quite a bit.

Joe needs to get laid!

I am a huge fan of Ledger and his crew. I raised an eye brow when I suspected what the Red Nights were early on. Good thing Maberry does a great job at making most of the content believable. Another great story and I'm about to dig into another
