Appointment with Death: A Hercule Poirot Mystery | [Agatha Christie]

Appointment with Death: A Hercule Poirot Mystery

Among the towering red cliffs of Petra, like some monstrous swollen Buddha, sits the corpse of Mrs.Boynton. A tiny puncture mark on her wrist is the only sign of the fatal injection that killed her. With only 24 hours available to solve the mystery, Hercule Poirot recalled a chance remark he'd overheard back in Jerusalem: "You see, don't you, that she's got to be killed?" Mrs. Boynton was, indeed, the most detestable woman he'd ever met....

    Story
"Another great reading of an enjoyable book"

It's not my favourite Christie novel, but it's still an interesting story with great characters - I particularly like the malevolent mother who is the murder victim in this story. Not sure why it was called "Appointment with Death", though - time is a factor, but no appointments were made out in the deserts around Petra (in Jordan). Hugh Fraser does a great job again, and I love listening to his narration of so many of the Agatha Christie mysteries.

    Story
    "One of her best."
Would you consider the audio edition of Appointment with Death to be better than the print version?

    did not read cant say.

What did you like best about this story?

It dealt with identifiable social problems that are as valid today as they were in 1938.

Which character – as performed by Hugh Fraser – was your favorite?

The young doctor she seemed to be the pivotal corrector.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. On my listening scale of 1-12 with one the lowest . I would have to give it a good 7. Means I'll be lessening to it at lease 7 more times.

    Any additional comments?

Hugh Fraser's characterizations are sharp and consistent. His voice is very comfortable to listen to.

    Story
    "First book we've listened to."
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

This book was a bit slow as the story is building. And for my kids, the accent was hard to understand at first. But half way thru the book, it became more interesting.

Would you be willing to try another book from Agatha Christie? Why or why not?

    No.
