It's all about the characters

Though the mysteries in the Walt Longmire series are not bad, they're not the main reason I listen to these books. It's the great characters that make these books stand out and this book is probably the best example of those characters. You can feel the friendships and heart of each of the regulars. Add in the assortment of unique supporting characters and you have the recipe for a great book. George Guidall IS the voice of Walt Longmire and captures his character perfectly. His performance of all the characters is generally spot on. Even though the voices of most of the woman sound pretty much the same they are each portrayed with a unique personality making them distinct. His wry delivery also fits the humor of the books to a tee and I often found myself laughing out loud at the exchanges between Walt, Vic, Henry and the others.

Keeping it fresh

Craig Johnson is doing a good job of managing the difficult task of keeping a series fresh. This installment manages to keep the humor and poignancy alive without retreading old material.

My Friend Flicka

This is my 9th outing with Walt et al through Audiobooks. This is hands down the best listen of the series. Why? All of the best characters are present and have key roles; Walt, Vic, and Henry. I have complained recently with too much inclusion of mysticism or head scratching metaphors in the series. None of that is present here. What we have is a straightforward story around a Mormon type "lost boy" that Walt has taken into custody. As the story unfolds, we have plenty of Johnson wit and terrific exchanges between Walt, Vic, and the "Cheyenne Nation". Do yourself a favor, pick this one up, sit back, and enjoy George Guidall's masterful delivery of a Walt Longmire yarn. And...what does My Friend Flicka have to do with any of it. Just listen to find out....I am still laughing out loud.

Go Walt

What did you love best about A Serpent's Tooth?

Not sure. Good listen. Not my favorite subject matter. I don't understand why people loose themselves completely in these religious cults. Walt as usual saves the day.

What other book might you compare A Serpent's Tooth to and why?

The whole compound religious sect thing has been done many times but it's the characters and storyline that add that little twist.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

As usual he brings the characters to life and he's true to these character with each performance. Bravo!!!!!!!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I hate to see such weakness in people to follow so blindly so it wasn't one of my favorite story lines but the reader does keep you listening.

Another Fun Longmire Mystery

Book 9 of this series and still tons of fun with Walt and Friends. I think my favorite parts are always about their personal friendships/relationships. My mind tended to wander with this book at times, so not among my top favorites - but still fun and worth the credit.

It wouldn’t be Walt Longmire without George Guidall!! Always a favorite narrator.
