A stunning debut thriller in the best-selling tradition of Scott Turow and John Grisham!

Alex Miller is a criminal defense lawyer leading the life he always imagined. At thirty-five, he is the youngest partner at New York City's most prestigious law firm, with a beautiful wife and a perfect daughter. When Alex's father suddenly passes away, Alex is introduced to Michael Ohlig, a rich and powerful man who holds an almost mythical place in his family lore. But Alex is surprised when Ohlig admits that he's in serious legal trouble, accused of crimes involving hundreds of millions of dollars. Alex agrees to take on Ohlig's defense.

Through the course of two trials, secrets are revealed that force Alex to question whether any of the people in his life are who they appear to be. Most importantly, he must decide whether the identity he projects to the world is the man he truly is or even wants to be.

With its powerful voice, pause-resistant tension, and strong cast of characters, A Conflict of Interest will captivate listeners right up to its electrifying conclusion.

Critic reviews

"This outstanding first novel follows Defense Attorney Alex Miller and his young family through the grinding world of high-priced criminal defense in New York City, detailing what can happen to an otherwise nice guy. David LeDoux's minimalist narration style works well. He imbues all the characters with a distinctive sound and unique persona." (AudioFile)
"More twists than a California cloverleaf interchange." (Bookreporter)
"This gifted writer should have a long and successful career ahead of him." (Publishers Weekly)

ABSOLUTLEY EXCELLENT!

Would you listen to A Conflict of Interest again? Why?

Great story line, interesting, complex, just right. I will be watching for Adam Mitzner! I like the long length of the book also. I have listened to all of James Patterson and Michael Connelys books, this is right up there at the top with them. Keep it up Adam! (and David LeDoux was an awesome narrator too!)

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yep! It just kept twisting and turning... the ending was fabulous!

What about David LeDoux’s performance did you like?

Lots of expresion, very clear and easy to understand. Nice voice!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to the whole 11 hours in about a day and a half. Fell asleep listening to it in bed the first night even though I tried my best to stay awake. Next morning I had to find my place but that's what I get for not using my sleep button on my iphone. This would be a great

Any additional comments?

I wish you had a better filter to get more books like this. I don't like how James Patterson is writing with other authors now, and his books are getting shorter and shorter. In my opinion that's not good. I like this book for both the quality and the quantity.

A Riveting Legal Plot

What did you love best about A Conflict of Interest?

The court scenes are excellent and easy to imagine that I was attending the trial.

What did you like best about this story?

The plot is great. Unravelling of the story very good. The reader or listener will not find it easy to put down the book or to stop listening. The author has a great insight of legal procedures. Great courtroom scenes. Excellent storyline. Highly recommended.

What about David LeDoux’s performance did you like?

I found him to be a very competent narrator, who brought the story to life. Well done.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

A book worth buying.

Kept me listening

I stayed interested in the story and kept listening despite the fact that Mr. LeDoux sounded like he had a stuffy nose throughout his narration.

Riveting pacing, plot, and characters. Brilliant!

What made the experience of listening to A Conflict of Interest the most enjoyable?

The pacing is perfect. I found myself saying "Oh no" out loud more than once, I was so thoroughly engaged in the story and with the characters.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It really did. Like a painting with a focal point, the focal point was always visible, while the supporting shapes and colors only enhanced the focal point. At times, I found myself holding my breath.

Have you listened to any of David LeDoux’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but he is an excellent reader and does the novel justice.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I wish I could make this book into a film. Maybe "Stirred and Shaken".

Any additional comments?

Yes. I read some of the other reviews and there was one by Richard D that is so far off the mark I think he must be jealous of Adam Mitzner. Nothing in his review is true. Interestingly enough he praises Suspect by Robert Crais, which is a book I returned because it was so amazingly poorly written, insipid and redundant. I love Conflict of Interest and highly recommend it. You can return it if you don't like it. I think you'll love it if you appreciate great writing, fabulous pacing, unforeseeable twists and turns, and dimensional characters that pull at your heart for all of their humanness.

Great book--not a thriller

This read like an early Turrow effort. Excellent character study, not so much a thriller. That said, I enjoyed every minute of it. The protagonist is painfully flawed, as is his marriage, his firm, and his family.

The story itself is enough to keep reading, but the really addictive part is the characterization. I look forward to more from Mr. Mitzner soon. Definitely worth a credit and several hours!

A good listen

Very easy to follow, at times very slow. Good development of charters and plot was worth the time to listen

#Redemption

This novel took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. I liked him, disgusted with him, understood him. It is a great listen!

Enjoyable!

Some parts were predictable but others gave enough of a twist to keep me engaged in the story.

Boring

Too long. Not a substantially enough plot. Keep wanting to fast forward. Performance was good.

good story, but...

After an hour of listening, I found myself copying the narrator's HEAVILY enunciated words in a half mocking, half joking tone. But then the chance to make fun came on more and more frequently, and the joking tone left... I couldn't focus on the story, instead I kept hoping he would stop. If anything though, it is getting worse. When I looked and saw I still had 9 plus hours to go, I briefly thought I would not be able to finish it. That's just me though, you be the judge, narrators are a taste thing, I believe, not a firm "good" or "bad" reality for everyone. I think the story is interesting so far, I like the characters and it is drawing me in. But the narration is tough. I'm going to ignore the way the words are v-er-eee care-full-eee s-p-o-k-en, and listen to the story line instead.
