Love Story - Spenser's Way

I love Robert B Parker's Spenser series - read all the books (yep the hard and soft copies). Have listened to the tape, the Mp3, and now the Ipad versions. Love the stories still and even more - A Catskill Eagle is one that was worth a "credit" to listen to all over again. I enjoy the dynamics between Spenser, Susan, and Hawke. As well as the interaction with characters that have weaved their way thru the pages in previous story lines. Good book. Great Characters. Mr Parker did a great job and the narration is pretty good too!

Not great

This was the “newest” Spenser book I’ve listened to, and I’m pretty disappointed in the direction he took the character. He’s basically a superhero in this one, a far cry from the sarcastic PI of “God Save The Child.” Not sure I’ll bother with any of the other Spenser books from this era. Pritchard is still a top-notch reader though, and made for easy listening even though I found the story frustrating.

Absurd premise

So one woman’s indecision causes two of her friends to murder several people and then Spenser takes her back??!!

First one I didn't like

This one was a little outlandish for me. I hope the series gets back to the basics.

The audio quality of this one was not great also. The volume wasn't steady, and the chapter changes were often abrupt.

There was no mystery.

Just disappointing. A short pseudo action story with no mystery, an entirely implausible story, and many loose ends. The worst of his stories so far.

Not my favorite Spenser

I recently gave A Catskills Eagle another go on Audible. I wanted to make sure of the reasons why I didn’t like it the first time, and.as it happened my first assessment was correct: I didn’t like Spenser the cold-blooded killer. Hawk I could understand, given his nature, but I couldn’t see Spenser justifying killing for Susan or any other reason. And speaking of Susan, she didn’t come off too sympathetically either in my opinion. Being a head shrinker with a PhD, she must have known the danger she was putting Hawk in, by asking to be rescued. And she also must have known that Spenser would come to both of their rescue, putting himself in an impossible situation. So to conclude, I didn’t like any of the characters in this Spenser tale, and I doubt if I’ll ever listen to it again.
