Mahalia's Sweet Tea boasts the most flavorful soul food in all of Prince George's County, Maryland. But as events at the beauty industry's leading trade show turn ugly, owner Halia Watkins needs to bite into an unsavory new item on the menu - murder!

When the chicest hair convention of the year gets cooking in town, so does business at Mahalia's Sweet Tea. Halia can barely handle the influx of customers looking to satisfy their appetites after spending the day surrounded by outrageous runway styles. As buzz builds around beauty mogul and pop-culture icon Monique Dupree, collard greens start moving out of the kitchen faster than models strutting down the catwalk....

But the glitz fades the moment Monique is found shot to death. Turns out, the glamorous entrepreneur's vanity empire was stained by bitter rivalries, explosive affairs, and backstabbers scheming for fame and fortune. With more suspects than ingredients listed on a bottle of deep conditioner, Halia and her cousin Wavonne rush to discover who pulled the trigger - before the conniving culprit dishes out another deadly surprise....

Who did it?

I enjoyed this suspenseful murder mystery. The author kept my undivided attention. I also got a good recipe for cooking greens.

I. Am. Loving. This. Series!

Being a Washingtonian growing up & a resident of Prince George’s County when I was a young adult in my second apartment, hearing the history and reminiscence of growing up in the area, brings back so much nostalgia! Just hearing the different streets & areas is a wonderful stroll down memory lane and fun times with family members & good friends, who still reside in this great tri-state (I know DC is not a state but…) area.

Mahalia, Wavonne, & Ms. Celia are so funny. Quick-witted banter, delicious sounding meals and I absolutely love that some of the mouthwatering recipes & instructions are sprinkled throughout the stories.

Not to mention, Halia has better sleuthing skills—without a lick of training or prior experience—than the whole doggone police department 😂😂

Both Ms. Williams and Ms. Edwards did good jobs as the narrators, however, there were parts where I wish they would’ve used more effort to get into playing the characters instead of just reading the story. It isn’t enough to subtract a star and not to take anything away from their time, talent, and dedication to bring these types of needed stories to the public.

They are very much appreciated for all they do. ♥️

All in all I really enjoyed the audio of both narrators. Looking forward to more of this series!

Great read

This was my first time reading or listening to a book by this author. I was not disappointed. The narrator was excellent and the content was great! Definitely got a new fan in me.

Sooooo good!

Can’t wait to listen to the last book. Btw, there’s an issue with the review section on this app. I’d give 10 stars if I could :)

It’s Complicated!

I love this series! ‘Who dunnit’ is my favorite genre of murder mysteries! The characters and settings are so true-to-life accurately depicting Black culture! I love a whole mystery involving Black women’s hair! Brilliant! The DMV & PG County as the backdrop is fascinating! I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the others due to the narration. The other narrator was fun and funny… this sounded like a bad read at times.
Overall a suspenseful and funny getaway into a world of possibilities of who dunnit!🥰🥰🥰

Good story

I like the story. I enjoy the Mahalia Watkins series, but the narration was not as interesting as book one and two

The cooking sleuth

After having read one, it is difficult to believe someone could be that forward.
