Engrossing and entertaining!

Agnes, recently widowed, is trying to get used to life on her own when a trip to Tynside turns into more than she expected! Between jewel thefts, bodies, and other nefarious goings on, there’s not a lot of time for sightseeing! Then there’s her childhood pal Alan … who just happens to be the Chief Inspector on the case …. Beautifully written and fabulously narrated, “Murder on Tyneside” kicks off what is certain to be a fascinating and fantastic series! The plot is delightfully twisty, intriguing, interesting, and kept me guessing! I’m keeping my lips zipped on the details, but fear not, the writing is so well done you won’t be in the dark on ANYTHING as you dive deeply into this delightful mystery! The characters are richly developed, diverse and plentiful! The narration that gives life to the author’s vision is beautifully timed, perfectly clear and wonderfully consistent, adding tremendously to the enjoyment of this fantastic story! I can’t wait for more! Five stars!

Great series

Agnes decided to take a holiday and visit a town her and her family left when she was twelve,The River was now clean, old building had been restored..Being around the people in the different groups, not knowing them but added an interest atmosphere rather than being by herself. With the police coming because the woman insisted an item had been stolen .Agnes thought it was rather exciting to be a suspect and have room searched.

Good Mystery Story

Story keeps you involved. When I finished this one, I had to listen to the 2nd book in the series. The narrator's inflections are just right and give you a great picture of Agnes.

Murder on Tyneside, very entertaining

Widowed Agnes Lockwood is spending a few days on Tyneside in Northeast England, catching up with her past. When expensive jewelry is stolen at the hotel, Chief Inspector Alan Johnson gets on the case.

After Alan recognizes Agnes as a friend from schooldays, they rekindle their friendship and Agnes bombards him with questions about the case. But after dinner one evening, they find a body lying on the roadside.

Agnes is always in the thick of things and finds herself targeted. Alan, distracted by Agnes, is having difficulty solving the cases. Thoroughly entertaining in how the story evolves and resolves.

Fantastic story and performance

Very interesting and entertaining mysteries with a classy lady. I enjoyed every minute of each of the four books in this series. I would love to listen more about Agnes Lockwood, Ben, Sandra, and DCI Johnson.

Excellent Murder Mystery

I received this audiobook at my request and I am providing this voluntary review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this quaint murder mystery. The narration is excellent, and the author kept me guessing with twists and turns all through the book. Although this story is far from realistic, in that the protagonist (an everyday citizen) essentially runs a murder investigation, I thought the plot was unique and interesting. I look forward to reading book 2 of the series!!

Pleasant Surprise

I liked this book enough to already go out and buy the next two in the series. Yes, I did get annoyed at some of the stupid things Agnes does. Telling her not to do something just ensures she will, but you accept that most books like this rely on a the protagonist have a Scooby Doo moment and doing things someone with common sense would not. All in all Agnes likeable enough and the plots credible enough that it is a pleasant way to spend a few hours.

3.5/5 stars

Run Time: 8 hrs and 22 mins
Genre: cozy-ish mystery
Summary:
Agnes Lockwood goes on holiday (vacation) to her hometown after a long time away. She catches up with an old friend who happens to be the Chief Inspector looking into a series of robberies at the hotel she’s staying at. Then, bodies start showing up.

Additional Comments:
• The last little bit had some excitement, but it was otherwise about 7.5 hours of the police chasing their tales and Agnes handing them clue after clue.
• I loved the narrator’s accent.
• Would have been way better if the police were somewhat useful to the investigation. I get it, you want your amateur to shine, but it doesn’t help them look good if everybody else is completely inept.
• Book was kind of boring.
• The conclusion turned out satisfying.
• Agnes needs a cat to really sell it as a cozy, but there’s nothing in here to justify categorizing it with thrillers or suspense. Mystery still works, but it’s a very, very slow burn sort of mystery.

Conclusion:
I have another book in the series, so I’ll give it a go, but these aren’t gonna end up on any favorites lists.
