Publisher's summary

The daughters of narcissistic mothers (NMs) book you’ve been waiting for! A theoretical, critical, and scholarly approach. No more dumbing down and invalidating the experiences of daughters of NMs. No more talk of the loving and caring mother in a space that’s supposed to be for healing daughters of NMs.

Whether or not you have a narcissistic mother, everyone should learn about them. By becoming aware of and recognizing their traits and behavior, you could help save the life of a child.

Other books on daughters of narcissistic mothers on the market are more self-help and psychologically oriented, while this audiobook is more scholarly and sociological, and considers the social forces at play with the narcissistic mother. It includes some references to my own experiences with an NM, as there are few studies done by institutions of higher education on the matter.

You will see how much more studies need to be done on daughters and their NMs.

In this audiobook, topics and discussions include:

  • Why the focus is on mother-and-daughter relationship
  • Fathers and narcissistic mothers
  • Ambivalence in “normal” motherhood vs. NM
  • Feminism and narcissistic mothers
  • Considering the history of your NM
  • Assessment of often purported solutions
  • The no-contact route
  • Black daughters of narcissistic mothers

And much more.

So if you are tired of the same old narrative and want a new take and knowledge of the NM that extends beyond what you already know, then stop playing, scroll up, and click the “buy now” button now!

Thought Provoking!

The experiences of narcissistic mothers are usually varied which demands a comprehensive approach to addressing them. I like that this book approached the subject academically, which not only widens the scope but also helps to bring to your mind the research on the subject. I found some ideas very new and exciting to think about. Highly recommended for anyone who, just like me, has started learning about the dysfunction in their upbringing.

Real and Honest!

I was instantly intrigued when a friend gave me this book because the title speaks to so many of us. Within the first few chapters, I loved the author's tone and the discussion she ignited around normal motherhood and the connection between feminism and narcissistic mothers. My favorite part was the section on no contact. The author has a lot to say on the topic, and I enjoyed the insight on narcissism. Highly recommend to anyone who has a narcissistic mother or wants to learn more about the traits and behaviors.

Information to help decipher behaviors

This audiobook resonated with me on multiple levels. While I suspected my mother had some narcissistic traits such as a lack of empathy, being overly envious of others, etc. After listening to the book, I recognized several more. There are a lot of practical examples and a wealth of academic research to help the listener find answers. I suggest that you listen to the book multiple times. The first pass will give you an overview. Subsequent passes will help reinforce knowledge, and you can take notes. If you are looking for information on narcissistic behaviors, give this a listen.

Great book!

This book does a great job at explaining the dynamics of the relationship between the narcissist mother and the daughter, how the daughter can deal with it, and how she can heal from the emotional damages done by the mother through therapy.

“Because the mother is the same gender as the daughter and the latter looks to the former as a role model, whether that be simply as a person, a wife, mother, etc”

It's very important to focus on daughters (not just sons) of narcissistic mothers because daughters are impacted so heavily by their mothers, as explained in this quote from the book.

The author does a great job of bringing awareness to narcissistic mothers and the damage they can do to their daughters if the right actions are not taken (such as setting boundaries).

Overall I think this is an excellent book.

Plenty of “aha!” moments

Wow. Listening this was like listening the story of my young life. It took me many years to catch on to my mother’s narcissism, and even then, I didn’t pick up on some of the nuances that this book describes. My mother died some years ago and I’ve long since largely forgiven her, but there is still some healing to do. I recommend this book to any woman who felt objectified and/or demeaned by her mother. Like me, you will probably have some major “aha!” moments. This book is packs a lot of punch.

Great Book!

I do not have narcissistic mother but plenty of people in my life do, and I have already given this book to my sister in law to help her with her own problems she has with her mother. I can see this book helping a lot of people.

Very informative

I got this book because I finally realized how narcissistic my own mother is, and I wanted to learn more. The author really gets it and is so relatable. She doesn't dumb down the situation because she understands the pain behind it. The author also gives great advice and support, which is what I really needed. Everyone should listen to this!

Amazing book.

This book resonated with me on a deeply personal level, as it felt like a recounting of my own youthful experiences. It took me years to fully comprehend the complexities of my mother's narcissism, and there were subtleties that had eluded me until this book unveiled them.

The book is an incredibly powerful and insightful resource, and the author's guidance and support are invaluable, providing the solace I had long sought. This is a book that deserves a wide audience, as its wisdom holds relevance for all.

I also want to appreciate the author for selecting such an amazing topic.

Narcissistic Mothers And The Cancel Culture!

I gave this to my friend's daughter as she's always had a problem with her mom. There is a lot of self-help books out there on narcissism but this book tackles the issue differently. It's well-produced and will open your eyes up to the relationship between aa narcissistic mom and her daughter..
