Publisher's summary

I only got into trucking because my granddad was a trucker, and he was the best damn person I ever met. I'd always thought I was your average dude with an 18-wheeler and an addiction to energy drinks, but it turns out there might be something more brewing in my blood.

Now instead of some desert highway, I'm stuck in a whole new realm, and it's full of worm cults, actual lot lizards, one seriously smoking catgirl mechanic, and enough sand and bloodthirsty creatures to make me think I took a wrong turn somewhere. But if I can manage to upgrade my truck, stay alive, and save a few damsels along the way, I might be able to add a whole new career path to my resume.

Yep, just call me Jack Vale, Monster Girl Trucker. Literally.

I Love Simon Archer

The narrator Rachel was perfect and gave life to the characters. great mystery about other worldly inhabitants that would fulfill any monster girl fantasy! the premise for the story was actually pretty interesting and I enjoyed it!!

Cozy, easy reading

Picked up the audiobook for this title not knowing Simon Archer's rep, and I got to say, at least this title was satisfying, and hit the spot like a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Jack, a trucker, essentially teleports to another dimension and discovers the multiverse, and goes about collecting gear for his truck to let him jump dimensions. Along for the ride is his catgirl mechanic (at first). The plot for the most part is "we want x, let's go get it" "we need x, let's get that".

Some might find the shallow plot a mark against it, but honestly it felt refreshing. Lately I've gotten tired of the "special man to save the world" big plot big stakes. Here, the low stakes allowed characters to relax and focus on each other, the only conflict being the natural romantic tension between the MC and the first girl. Most of the book has the characters doing what they want, exploring--the MC gets to show off earth to a country bumpkin, and bring goods to a poor community, the type of things *I* would enjoy doing.

The MC isn't annoying, and the ladies are distinct enough and enjoyable, although girl2 and 3 show up fairly late in the book, meaning we get a lot of time between MC and Girl1. In the last portion of the book we get some actual tension and conflict and it progresses a little more naturally than some "Surprise climax battle" books. Overall the writing is quite decent.

I hope the author writes more, although with the completeness of the ending, I'm not sure. If there's anything that makes me worry it's that the MC's truck gets a little too upgraded by the end, making things perhaps a bit too easy going forward. If the series continues though, hopefully it'll stick to hauling goods for others and exploring the multiverse's wide open road.

pleasurable read and listen

really enjoyed the story and the characters. there were some gaping problems but overall it still worked. how does a girl who spent your whole life washing clothes wrangling buckets of milk learn as much as she did? she was like a zombie. She hadn't spoken to many in years but out of nowhere she blossomed into a badass in a matter of hours. she knew how to read English, operate a firearm well enough to sniper a motorcycle. It makes the truck capable of hopping between dimensions more believable than her origin story. I really do enjoy the characters though. I can't say I would complain if I were in his shoes.

Good list but could have been great

Fun story, interesting stuff going on. But, a huge lack in details. Really could have benefitted from more explanation and detail. Whole book felt very rushed, easily could have been double the length and would be a better listen for it. Not bad but rushed.

Boring as hell.

I tried, I gave it an hour. I like alot of weird stuff, this seems like a wander down some half baked anime that lasts one season. Check out the summary of the authors other titles before you dive into this. I'm all for lizard-human, cat girl sex, just not by this author. Narration was terrible, everyone sounded the same.

if you are a trucker, pass this one on by...

I've been an Over The Road Truck Driver for over twenty years now. I've driven Kenworth's, Peterbilt's, International's, Freightliner's, MACK's, and Volvo's, and multiples of each during that time. Never Once have I run into an 18 wheelere with the key in the steering column. Never had a stick shift with a PARK gear, Never had an engine that could be fixed with a monkey wrench and a welding torch. The Kenworth I'm sitting in Right Now is 36,000lbs fully fueled with an empty trailer (That's 18 tons) and that's about the lightest OTR truck I've ever driven.
Over the last 20 plus years I have stayed in motel rooms exactly 9 times, all when my truck was broken, or the a/c didn't work. Motel Rooms are too expencive to afford for an average OTR driver on any kind of regular basis, seeing that they START at $80 a night, and run WELL over $500 in a nice area. half my base pay before taxes for a bed and bathroom? no thanks. I can sleep in my truck for free, unless I have to pay to park.
I do not know who in the heck Simon Archer is, but he obviously doesn't know anything at all about driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle in the modern era. Sure Sure he probably heard tales from the late 60's or early 70's about the wild west of trucking, Maybe he saw movies like CONVOY or Smokey And The Bandit.
Those are Fiction, and nothing like reality.

and it's REALITY that's the problem. every time Simon goes to add 'a little trucker flair' into the story, it's like jabbing my pinky toe on the coffee table in the dark. Totally ruins the mood, and takes me out of my suspension of disbelief. I cannot enjoy this story because he gets too may things WRONG.
Having Sex with Cat Girls? sure, no problem. Hopping from one dimension to another? Why not? it's all good.
putting a stick shift 18-wheeler in PARK? just... NO.

I'm halfway through this story, and the less he talks about the truck the better. if he keeps it up, I'm going to demand my money back because I cannot enjoy someone that is completely clueless trying to "tell me how to do my job" because that's what it feels like.

IF you are 20-something and know nothing AT ALL about trucking, it's a fun story...
I'm 48. One Of My Kids is older than the main character. and I suspect that the author is about that age as well
