Publisher's summary

In the thrilling sequel to the New York Times best-selling novel Minecraft: The Island, a stranded hero stumbles upon another castaway—and discovers that teamwork might just be the secret to survival.

Wandering a vast, icy tundra, the explorer has never felt more alone. Is there anything out here? Did I do the right thing by leaving the safety of my island? Should I give up and go back? So many questions, and no time to ponder—not when dark is falling and dangerous mobs are on the horizon.

Gurgling zombies and snarling wolves lurk in the night, and they’re closing in. With nowhere to hide, the lone traveler flees up a mountain, trapped and out of options...until a mysterious figure arrives, fighting off the horde singlehandedly. The unexpected savior is Summer, a fellow castaway and master of survival in these frozen wastes.

Excited to find another person in this strange, blocky world, the explorer teams up with Summer, whose impressive mountain fortress as a safe haven...for now. But teamwork is a new skill for two people used to working alone. If they want to make it home, they will have to learn to work together—or risk losing everything.

Beautiful

This is a very poignant book for these Covid times. Max Brooks is able to capture what my children (and I) were feeling while looking forward to a bright adventurous future. Thank you Max Brooks for such a lovely story.

Another immersive dive into the world of Minecraft

I really enjoyed this book, even though at first I had a hard time getting used to the new narrator (It’s kind of unfair to have to follow up Jack Black).

Adventure, fun, and friendship—our hero experiences and learns from all of these.

I also love how game-accurate these stories are—the updates occur as you’d expect—but with the perspective of not knowing about the updates beforehand.

Spook Good

I loved this book so much it was the perfect sequel to the story before "Minecraft the island." While I did feel the first was better this was a long awaited second part. I'm extremely surprised that they was a second book. I might even say there might be a 3rd. Overall a good read. 😊

A Minecraft lovers best book for readers of all ages

We love the Minecraft books by Max Brooks. The stories are fun and exciting. Keeps my kids’ interest enough to listen more than once.
This book is fun, exciting, and has great tips for in game play. This is a wonderful addition to your library. You won’t be disappointed.
My favorite part is the Goonies reference read by Sean Astin.

This writer knows what you want from this book.

I honestly don't think I could read a Minecraft book not written by Brooks. The writing's phenomenal and expresses an experience I wish I could get from the game. The voice actors are on point and I'm really happy they brought in two for this one. It almost makes me want to dive into the world and experience it for real, even though that would mean experiencing hardship and potentially dying. Minecraft is a game with a lot of stuff to aimlessly do and that's always been a double-edged sword.

For a writer, you could go a lot of different routes and fall into a lot of different pitfalls, especially when it comes to deciding what needs to be put into the story and how much it needs to be focused on. Max Brooks seems to be the perfect path to me. It explores just the right stuff to make for an amazing story and instill awe in the world of Minecraft while leaving other things open for further exploration by the kids and adults alike that would be inspired to either play try the game out for the first time or play and see the game differently from how they did before.

Sadly, you just can't get even close to the same kind of enjoyment out of the game that you do from this book or the other books in Brooks' series. Everyone has, at least, an idea of what the basics of the game are, it's not a life or death kind of situation, you won't get the 4K raytracing vision of real-life quality, sandy shores compressed into cubes that deny the laws of physics that you might envision while listening to this book's read-through unless you have an amazing PC and even then, you're not really there.

Still, the book has multiple takes on its own game, which is interesting and I think it goes a long way towards putting people into the world Max weaves throughout the pages. Even if you're not a Minecraft fan, even if you hate Minecraft, listen to this book. It's amazing, well read by the lead voices, and stands on its own, separate from the game itself.
