Publisher's summary

If you love someone, set them free . . . If they come back, they could be a zombie

Someone is trying to kill Charles Hawthorne, one of the richest men in Maine. And they're using magic to do it.

He suspects the members of his own family and hires me to check them out. I soon discover that Charles Hawthorne has a dark secret lurking in his past, a secret that may have come back to haunt him.

With an ancient wizard bugging me to chase down the Midnight Cabal and two Shadow Watch agents who want to question me about my father, things are going to get crazy.

Oh, and Mallory's back, along with some supernatural baggage.

Time to sharpen the swords and get to work!

Short but interesting

I enjoy the way each book in this series has a new case for them to solve while also continuing the overarching storyline.

Disappointed

The narrorator was changed. This is a huge disappointment because it literally changed the personalities of all the characters in the story so much that it is like listening to a different story line. The narrorator of the first few books is one of the best i've heard in all the many audiobooks i've listened to and he really brought these characters to life. This narrorator was ok but the characters became very 2 dimensional in his rendition. I am very disappointed in who ever made the decision to change narrators half way through the series.

Out on Audiobook Finally!!

If you're like me and started this series years ago this booking finally coming out on Audiobook has been along time coming. That being said, the only real disappointment is the lack of Greg Tremblay. I personally hate when the narrator changes part way through a series. Maybe if these do well, we can get the first few books read by Barnett so it's all the same.

As for the book and the story this follows Alec as he continues to try to take down the Midnight Cabal, all while trying to prevent he's newest client from being killed by someone using magic as a weapon. Oh yea, and Mallory's back with an spiritual hitchhiker.

Overall, Greg Barnett does a great job and the story continues to be entertaining. Excited for the next book to see what happens next!
