A short story prequel to Denver Moon: The Minds of Mars

Denver Moon is Mars’ top private eye. She works the tunnels of Mars City, a struggling colony ravaged by the mysterious red fever. Her latest client, Jard Calder, is demanding results. Someone is dismembering the pimp’s prostitutes and salvaging their body parts. But since the victims are robots instead of humans, is it really murder?

Nice Prequel Story!

I probably should have listened to the main book first, but this is a great introduction to the series nonetheless. Well written and SUPERBLY narrated! It's a SUPER enjoyable listen. Highly recommended.

Great Sci-Fi Short Story!

I was introduced to the Denver Moon series through the graphic novel that adapts this exact prequel story. I really enjoyed it so I wanted to explore what else the world of Denver Moon had to offer.

Already being familiar with the story, I knew what to expect; a cool sci-fi setting on Mars with very good world building and a strong & fun private investigator as the main character. I do feel that the ending was just a bit rushed but the story was very enjoyable overall.

The performance of the audiobook was all around great, notably Amanda Day who was excellent as Denver. I really appreciated the audio effects when Denver would sub-vocalize to her AI, which made the listen that much more immersive.

Overall, this is definitely worth checking out if you like futuristic sci-fi and detective type stories. I will absolutely be continuing with this series!

Mars Detective

With how short this is I would not spend a credit on it, I even bought it on sale, and would suggest buying it when it's on sale for 2 or 3 dollars. A Mars Private Detective short story that could stand alone. Doesn't stay too long and is rich with world building.
Some of the voice work could use tweaking, felt like I was listening to a Fallout New Vegas mod at a few points, but Amanda Day does an amazing job as the main character.

Great but short

I received a free review copy of this audio book, at my request, and am voluntarily leaving this unbiased review.

This is a very short story, around 40 minutes or so. It therefore feels more like a prolog to the first book than a prequel. It provides no real back story or insight into the character or world. It is just a brief case that happens before the events of the fist book.

It also gives no explanation of the events of the first book or the world it takes place in. It is simply a short case that Denver is on before Book 1.

Having said that, it is enjoyable for what it is. It is no use to read without having read book 1 first as the characters or setting is not set up. This is not a stand alone.

But, if you like book 1 and you want a little more Denver PI, than this is a good place to stop for a snack.

Voice narration, by Amanda Day and Nicholas Cain, is excellent. The use of slight voice modulation adds to the experience. It is very well done.

The only thing to keep in mind for this story is its length. At little more than a episode of a TV show, there is not much to get into. But if you like the story of book 1 and want a little more, this is enjoyable, with great narration. Just keep in mind the length when deciding to buy or not.
