Publisher's summary

Is it possible to venture beyond daily living and experience heightened states of awareness? Deepak Chopra says that higher consciousness is available here and now.

Metahuman helps us harvest peak experiences so we can see our truth and mold the universe’s chaos into a form that brings light to the world.”—Dr. Mehmet Oz, attending physician, New York–Presbyterian, Columbia University

New York Times bestselling author Deepak Chopra unlocks the secrets to moving beyond our present limitations to access a field of infinite possibilities. How does one do this? By becoming metahuman.

To be metahuman, however, isn’t science fiction and is certainly not about being a superhero. To be metahuman means to move past the limitation constructed by the mind and enter a new state of awareness where we have deliberate and concrete access to peak experiences that can transform people’s lives from the inside out.

Humans do this naturally—to a point. For centuries the great artists, scientists, writers, and many so-called ordinary people have gone beyond the everyday physical world. But if we could channel these often bewildering experiences, what would happen? Chopra argues we would wake up to experiences that would blow open your body, mind, and soul.

Metahuman invites the listener to walk the path here and now. Waking up, we learn, isn’t just about mindfulness or meditation. Waking up, to become metahuman, is to expand our consciousness in all that we think, say, and do.

By going beyond, we liberate ourselves from old conditioning and all the mental constructs that underlie anxiety, tension, and ego-driven demands. Waking up allows life to make sense as never before. To make this as practical as possible, Chopra ends the book with a 31-day guide to becoming metahuman. Once you wake up, he writes, life becomes transformed, because pure consciousness—which is the field of all possibilities—dawns in your life. Only then does your infinite potential become your personal reality.

Critic reviews

“Our world is preoccupied with material progress, yet too often we overlook the miracle of our very existence. In this remarkable book, Deepak Chopra reminds us not to be distracted by the idols of our age but to marvel at the deep truths of being. Metahuman is a handbook to becoming fully alive.”—Arthur C. Brooks, PhD, professor, Harvard Kennedy School and author of Love Your Enemies

Metahuman is a wonderful explanation—and exploration—of the very highest and ultimate potentials that human beings possess, known around the world as Enlightenment, Awakening, the Great Liberation. What is not generally known is the secret revealed at the very heart of the great wisdom traditions—namely, that you already possess this ultimate potential; it is fully and totally present in you, right here and right now. All you have to do is recognize this ever‑present reality. If you would like to know exactly how to do this, Metahuman is a terrific place to begin!”—Ken Wilber, author of The Integral Vision and The Religion of Tomorrow

“We might suppose that the vastness of space-time, with its myriad stars and planets, comprises the preexisting stage for a ceaseless drama of life in which we are bit players. In Metahuman, Deepak Chopra persuasively invites us to turn this supposition on its head. We are the authors of space-time; we can wake up to our impressive stagecraft and embrace our true role.”—Donald Hoffman, professor of cognitive sciences, University of California, Irvine, author of The Case against Reality

Great material

Fantastic book with highly detailed information on becoming Meta human. It’s interactive and Deepak has listeners take notes and review the content. This is one of his better books and his previous books tie into this one nicely.

As expected…

Deepak always delivers words that point to the truth in an understandable way. I am so glad he chose to read it himself!

Leaves you with plenty to ponder

This book could be life-changing for you. I honestly think it was for me. It helped me to realize that I've thought about very few things my whole life, but I believed that the things I had thought about I thought about very deeply. This book caused me to think about things that would cause me to rethink about every thing I've ever thought before. I now know nothing, but you know what, that has left me so much better off than I was before, so sure that I could fit all truth into a neat little box. Now I'm allowing the remainder of this existance to do so much more with my conscious mind, and it's really about the journey now and not the destination. I've reread this book a few times and will likely reread it again and again.

Probably better in book version.

There are a lot of exercises in this book, it would help to have them in a written format.

The length hurt the quality

I like Deepak Chopra’s teachings and the subject matter overall, but I have to say this book was extremely sluggish. The first SIX HOURS are foundational, and here’s the problem: if you’re brand new to the subject, the book is too abstract to keep you that long. If you’re experienced with the subject, you’ll wonder why you sat through 6 whole hours of foundational work. Part 2 of the book begins by acknowledging this, except he blames it on your “human impatience, especially for men,” rather than his really long winded writing. I’m afraid Part 2’s pace doesn’t improve much either, which is why I gave it 4 stars.

It’s like he is speaking my innermost thoughts

I am just constantly amazed at the synchronistic sequence of books that this great man writes. The first book of his I read “How to Know God” shook me to my core because it was the first time I ever read something so aligned with my own thinking... I had written a book about the psychology and evolutionary ascent to godhood of life in humanity and spent a few years trying to promote it before I read his book and it was like I found a Siamese twin connected at consciousness, Lol! —and this book is no different. Deepak Chopra will speak your soul.

I found “Autobiography of a Yogi” to be somewhat autobiographical in some places—not even joking, a tiger bit my hand and I tamed it even... seriously it’s unreal. But it’s full of a lot of story and details that I guess serve a purpose but make it harder to read and bring it all together. Deepak just goes in straight like Luke attacking the Death Star in Star Wars—which I always thought symbolized the artificial world we can get drawn into. Darth Vader was correct that they shouldn’t be too confident in the technological terror they constructed because it literally is NOTHING compared to the timeless power of the FORCE. That was just a movie, based on religious legends, but Deepak gets right down to it and shows you how to make the Death Star into a life Star.

This latest book is one of the best things I have ever read, and I tried but could not find any fault with what he says. I would go further, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Perfect.

A hard subject

Once you tune into Deepax’s voice the information flows. His ideas are both scientific and Yogic.

A book to relate to…

Highly recommend it. Have not read a book that made me feel glued to the paragraphs, sentences, words, and letters like this book did.
Reminds the one not every book is mean to read, when procrastinating other books.
The all book felt like an experience worth clicking.
Be there in this place where solitude, joy, vitality, kindness, and compassion are the present moment guests. Best of all, disconnected from reality. Feeling nothingness.
