Publisher's summary

A provocative examination of how the great religious traditions can remain relevant in modern times by incorporating scientific truths learned about human nature over the last century.

A single purpose lies at the heart of all the great religious traditions: awakening to the astonishing reality of the true nature of ourselves and the universe. At the same time, through centuries of cultural accretion and focus on myth and ritual as ends in themselves, this core insight has become obscured. Here Ken Wilber provides a path for reenvisioning a religion of the future that acknowledges the evolution of humanity in every realm while remaining faithful to that original spiritual vision. For the traditions to attract modern men and women, Wilber asserts, they must incorporate the extraordinary number of scientific truths learned about human nature in just the past 100 years - for example, about the mind and brain, emotions, and the growth of consciousness - that the ancients were simply unaware of and thus were unable to include in their meditative systems. Taking Buddhism as an example, Wilber demonstrates how his comprehensive Integral Approach - which is already being applied to several world religions by some of their adherents - can avert a "cultural disaster of unparalleled proportions": the utter neglect of the glorious upper reaches of human potential by the materialistic postmodern worldview. Moreover, he shows how we can apply this approach to our own spiritual practice. This, his most sweeping work since Sex, Ecology, Spirituality, is a thrilling call for wholeness, inclusiveness, and unity in the religions of tomorrow.

Great Tomorrow Sutra

Love this Sutra! Love the carefully apportioned repetitions that always are heard interwoven in reinforced loops of yarn, weaving a most profoundly encouraging carpet to ride to all the next levels, stages etc.

Malcom narrates with a knowing and pleasant voice and shares excitement and wonder

powerful message for humanity

Overall the message and new content from Wilber is refreshing and deep. I've read about 10 of his other books, this one has new content on Shadow work and the stages beyond integral. Wilber does repeat himself quite a bit in this book, and it could perhaps be condensed, but I do find the repetition useful in the audio version so that it sinks into my mind better. The narration is clear in a British voice. I've listened to the recording three times, I found it most helpful listening along with the book the third time... It helped me get through the print copy faster and understand the audio better.

I love this book

Wonderful book, very comprehensive, and well worth a credit. It's very long at 30 hours but I think it is a terrific piece of work. The reader does not pronounce jnana correctly which get me cracking up but other than that I think he does a good job. Also his voice is clear and I think he likes the book a bit which I think plays a role in how easy it is to understand a reader.

Informative

The book is informative with a lot of interesting ideas, but it’s impossible to ignore the amount of repetition. Towards the mid point of the book I just wanted it to be done because of the repetition. And that’s despite finding the ideas engaging and interesting.

Exceptionally detailed integral meta-theory. Wow!!

Very plesant to listen to. Haven't read the book, only listened. Repetitititition is not an issue when listening. Ken's most detailed piece I an aware of, contains several pearls and great material for upcomming century, I hope at least.

One of the most comprehensive books

It covers more than I expected and gives practical advice.
it feels like "a" bible - a lot of life changing information.
I would recommend to bookmark the practical parts to return to.
