A Promise at Sobibór is the story of Fiszel Bialowitz, a teenaged Polish Jew who escaped the Nazi gas chambers. Between April 1942 and October 1943, about 250,000 Jews from European countries and the Soviet Union were sent to the Nazi death camp at Sobibór in occupied Poland. Sobibór was not a transit camp or work camp: Its sole purpose was efficient mass murder. On October 14, 1943, approximately half of the 650 or so prisoners still alive at Sobibór undertook a daring and precisely planned revolt, killing SS officers and fleeing through minefields and machine-gun fire.

On the nights of July 16 and 17, 1942, French police rounded up 11-year-old Joseph Weismann, his family, and 13,000 other Jews. An Amazing recollection of strength
If you didn't know this is a memoir, you might think it's too amazing to be true. But it is. The author's telling of what she experienced makes it hard to believe she didn't have spiritual help. Her cat's part in her survival so touched my heart. The author makes it clear we should never forget the Nazi atrocities.

Just incredible
I have read and listened to over 200 books on the Holocaust and this would be in my top five. A story of relentless courage, faith and hope. I am not the same after reading it. Thank you for sharing your unbelievable story. We will not forget.💪🏻

Could Not Stop Listening
The narration and suspense compels you to keep listening in order to keep her alive. Profoundly beautiful, gut-wrenching, but life-affirming. Mala's account is a poignant story of hope, drive, laser-focused wit, animal-like alertness, and unconditional love amidst unspeakable cruelty and unimaginably poor odds of survival. I wish every young American would read it.

amazing
I found this memoir to be amazing. It gave me hope and understanding. I am amazed at the strength and endurance that she found in her faith to carry on. Her story needs ro be made a motion picture. I really believe that she was blessed with an Angel to guide and protect her. I am thankful she was able to write her story.

Incredible
This biography is amazing. What she went through can you hope through challenges and reminds me of my faith as well.
The cat is incredible. I wish I knew what the cat looked like! The narrator who read this was perfect. I will look for other books she narrated. Really gave life to the people in the story and made you feel there. Now one of my favorites.
