Publisher's summary

New York Times bestselling author Jonah Berger’s cutting-edge research reveals how six types of words can increase your impact in every area of life: from persuading others and building stronger relationships, to boosting creativity and motivating teams.

Almost everything we do involves words. Words are how we persuade, communicate, and connect. They’re how leaders lead, salespeople sell, and parents parent. They’re how teachers teach, policymakers govern, and doctors explain. Even our private thoughts rely on language.

But certain words are more impactful than others. They’re better at changing minds, engaging audiences, and driving action. What are these magic words, and how can we take advantage of their power?

In Magic Words, internationally bestselling author Jonah Berger gives you an inside look at the new science of language and how you can use it. Technological advances in machine learning, computational linguistics, and natural language processing, combined with the digitization of everything from cover letters to conversations, have yielded unprecedented insights.

Learn how salespeople convince clients, lawyers persuade juries, and storytellers captivate audiences; how teachers get kids to help and service representatives increase customer satisfaction; how startup founders secure funding, musicians make hits, and psychologists identified a Shakespearean manuscript without ever reading a play.

Interesting book overall and very insightful

Trying to understand exactly what those people mean when they talk about liberal agenda on the book... so just because data that explains situations doesn't agree with your views (which are not scientific), it's liberal? I must say the comments mentioning it were the very thing that made me buy it because I got curious to see what they were actually talking about. very good book, but not the authors best.

Amazing Book, it is a must read!

Most books give you some
Meat but not enough to get you full. This book breaks it down and shoes you what to do from start to finish. My next book is contagious! 👍🏼

good book minus the progressive flare-up

The book is good, well-written and well-delivered. I have ALL of Berger's books. Towards the end, however, there is a left-wing flare-up. That's not as pervasive as in a previous book, but worth mentioning the author caves in to dog-whistling to score points with a particular audience. I find the flare up kind of dishonest. Kroth explains that “Black Lives Matter” got almost three times the prime-time coverage (Jan. 1-Aug.1 2020) as the COVID disaster did: mass distractions. White victims of police shootings and similar dramatic homicides received roughly one tenth as much coverage as Black victims.(Reilly 2019:172). Last, I am male and as White as it gets, but I have my list of unpleasant encounters with security personnel: my backpack being searched repeatedly as I exited a store, or the unsavory street cop during a stop...
