Publisher's summary

Lieutenant Trufant is a hard crime novel that takes place in San Fransisco. It is a serial killer vs. the detective story. It deals with the homeless, alcoholism, drug addiction, and mental illness. There are some graphic, realistic crime scenes.

Lieutenant Marcus Trufant sits alone in his apartment waiting for his phone to ring and praying it won't. It's April 11th and, just like the April before, he knows a United States veteran will be slaughtered in the next several hours. Each year a veteran is killed on April 11th, and another on December 1st. The first two occurred in Chicago, but the last four have been on his streets.

The killer leaves no clues and no trace evidence, but after each homicide a cryptic letter arrives. A handwritten quote from Shakespeare, always with a hint of revenge, but revenge for what?

The case has already ruined his marriage, and it is slowly destroying Trufant as well. Only catching this killer will save him, and losing is not an option.

Jeff Shaw's fascinating first novel pits the seasoned detective against a methodical serial killer who leaves nothing but dead men in his wake.

Enjoyed the story

The story was very enjoyable with relatable characters. The author did great with descriptive details and putting you in the scenes. The narrator for the audiobook had an almost whistle tone as the end of certain words or sentences, so that was a little distracting at times. But overall, the book was a great first from this author for me and I can't wait to read another.

Jeff Shaw knows his stuff... verdict get it!

For crime lovers. YES SIR!
I am from San Francisco. The author captured the good and bad of current times. He is obviously a former law enforcement officer; You could not present such a detailed accounting without direct knowledge of the subject. He nailed it, and had me on the end of my earpiece until the finish. I usually listen to Audiobooks when I am driving. This week I made pathetic excuses to drive to town so I could listen to the ending. A nail biter- can't-turn-it-off kind of a book.
Loved his narrator.

Jeff Shaw delivers a twisty thrill-ride

Retired homicide detective Jeff Shaw knows cops and crime, and he writes with a spare, unflinching style. This tale of addiction and obsession, justice and psychopathy, is full of memorable characters and taut action. I can't wait to hear what Shaw serves up next.
