She and his ex-girlfriend, Clarissa, have been trying to get through to him, but he refuses to listen. Lani starts to have dreams that their mother is still alive and is determined to find out the truth. Since Malique won’t listen to her pleas, she enlists the help of Professor Chapman. Chapman learns of Skye’s gift. The professor, Lani, and Clarissa meet with Skye. Will they find out the truth of what happened to Lani and Malique’s mother? Is she alive? Will Malique rediscover who he is?

This book can be considered as part two of Malique's Quest, but can also be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel.

"The Chosen One."

When Sky Alexander's grandmother died, Sky inherited not only her house in New Orleans but also an unusual gift: the ability to see and communicate with the spirit world. She joins forces with a brother and sister who are desperately searching for their mother, previously believed dead but now thought to be in serious trouble.

It's an interesting mystery made much better by the characterization and the feeling that these are real people. The author, Giselle Lumas, also narrates, infusing emotion into her performance. The text is read with good modulation and some of the main protagonists have excellent individual voicing although not all are clearly defined. Plus although it can be read as a stand alone, a lot of the plot is a continuation of an earlier book and it would certainly have made understanding easier to fully enjoy had this been read first.

It is definitely the interplay of characters which makes this story enjoyable and it should appeal to all who enjoy a little paranormal searching in their lost person mysteries. And I love the cover.
