Well Worth It

Fast, easy, yet in-depth. One of the few language instruction audiobooks that explains things I've been wondering about but no one seemed to address. For instance, I wondered why some letters are silent at the end of French words, why do some French words have a different first sound other than the letter they start with (it's a carryover from the consonant of the last word to the beginning vowel sound of the word being pronounced). Also, the language is presented in a fast-paced, fun way. It's so easy to keep up with what principle or word or pronunciation is being taught. I highly recommend that beginners check out this audiobook. It has helped me tremendously.

Very worthwhile!

Dr. Blair is charming, and the scenario makes things more fun, but this is just an outstanding introductory French audio course. The structure and content are very well thought out, and Dr. Blair clearly knows how to teach French in a manner that helps with retention, while keeping you engaged and amused.

I haven't purchased any of the other French audio courses on Audible (I sampled a couple of others), but I have found that I still like working through Dr. Blair after purchasing the Rocket French computer/audio program. Rocket French is fabulous, including its audio courses, but Dr. Blair is still an excellent complement, obviously not as comprehensive, but still covering conversational French with surprising depth and breadth.

The only helpful addition would be a writen transcript of the material, partly because I'm more of a visual learner, but also because I wish to make the connection with the written word.

I was a complete beginner to French when I started with Dr. Blair (and Rocket French), and I am trying to get "functional" for an upcoming vacation in France. I'm not quite finished with Dr. Blair, but it has been extraordinarily helpful (I've worked with it more than Rocket French, thus far), and I'm pretty comfortable that I will be able to get by (in the company of others with more French training).

Very Highly Recommended.

Good

I would say it is a good book. Don’t expect to much from it. It is for beginners.

Perfect!

This is exactly what I was looking for. The teaching system mixes English and French in a way that lets you recognize what the French words mean. It’s more than a basic beginner level but it’s easier than the lessons that give you a paragraph at a time. Perfect pacing for upper beginners.

Really enjoyable and breezy

This was an entertaining introduction to some elementary French vocabulary, expressions, and simple grammatical principles. It had just enough of a story line to stay interesting and the right amount of repetition to let the listener absorb the material (without overkill).
